New SO36i; Quick 1000W windlass; 28m of 10mm chain.
The agent is suggesting we use 18mm multiplat anchor rope; 'Quick' website appears to suggest 5/8th (16mm) 3 strand rope.
I do not have experience of using rope on a windlass; will appreciate advice on best anchor rope to go for?
best, Gerry

When we commissioned our SO39i in August the dealer told us we should use 3 strand and not the braid we wanted - because the braid would slip. We insisted on braid. Have experienced no slippage and it doesn't twist like 3 strand. NornaJ

Thanks nornaj; just to confirm - is your braid the "multiplat" anchor rope ? and do you use just the one gypsy for chain & rope?

I believe it is the nylon double braided anchor line by New England Ropes. And, yes, we use the one gypsy. The transition from chain to rope is excellent, much better than we were used to on our old boat with a maxwell windlass and three strand nylon.

Sunset, I have a 2007 36i. The first year we had 20 feet of chain and 200 feet 3 strand rope. We now have 200 feet of chain only. The problem we had with the rope was that it was to light to fall into the anchor well and therefore it would back up into the hole on the windlass. It was impossible to deal with. Now that we have all chain we rarely have any issues when nchoring or lifting the anchor. Happy Sailing, Martin Kohn Remedy
