Hi We are looking to fit heating into our SO37 single aft cabin version (either Eberspacher or Webasto) and we'd like to know how others have fitted theirs, or what the factory fit is. Any fitting experiences, descriptions or pics much appreciated. Cheers.

not quite the same - but may help we have a 3 cabin SO40 the Webasto heater is located in the Stbd cockpit locker with an additional wooden panel in front of it for protection the exhaust hose is routed from here and thro the hull on that side there is a fresh air inlet at high level on the transom the hot air ducts are then generally routed behind the galley and lockers on the Stbd side of the boat

Thank you for the info. As the SO40 is similar lay out to the 37 I assume you routed underneath the fridge unit, did you have any problems with that? Also how many outlets do you have, you don't mention an outlet in the heads, or portsdie cabin.
Thanks again T

I was able to get a diagram from the factory that showed where they pout a Webasto heater and associated ducting, etc on a SO42I. Perhaps if you contact them they could help you.
On the 42I the heater is just forward of the transom on the stbd side. The ducting runs behind the fridge - there was room to feed the duct through there. Best decision we made was to add a heater. The Webasto works flawlessly and makes the boat very comfortable.

dnickj & rhb Thank you very much for your replies. I'll try Jeanneau for more info, I think I have more of an idea now on the general routing. I'll either be asking more questions or I'll let you know how i get on, Thanks again T

Before you install the heater, do check that any factory-installed hot air trunking has been put in correctly. On my 36i (single aft cabin) there was trunking pre-installed behind the fridge ... well almost .. it ran from the aft cabin , behind the fridge and ended just at the edge of the fridge in a position where it would have been impossible to connect more trunking to it. If I had used this trunking it would have been a disaster, it probably would have leaked and heated the fridge not the saloon. Fortunately I spotted the problem before I started the installation and was able to put the Webasto on the other side of the boat. There would have been no other way past the fridge on the Starboard side, so I did a Port sided installation.

We own a SO37 2002 single cabin. I installed our Wallas in the SB aft cockpit locker due to the maximum length of the diesel supply hose. The exhaust and air inlet are mounted in one stainless steel pipe, so the exhaust is being cooled by combustion air intake. The burner takes the air to be heated out of its surroundings in the locker. There are 2 warm air tubes coming out of the burner. I placed and isolated them behind the steering at the back. On port I made one exit in the back cabin, one exit in the wet cupboard (to dry sailing clothing) and on exit under the seat at the map table, all using one heating tube. The other tube exits in the front of the living and one exit in the forward cabin. Works very good.

Hi I own a 2001 37 with the single aft cabin. She is fitted with eberspacher D4 with outlets to all cabins and has a seven day timer. The whole system works great and was fitted to the yacht by the previous owner. The actual unit or burner is located aft on the port side access would involve lifting the gas bottle compartment out.The exhaust exits on the transom at the port side about half way down,be mindful of how you might carry an inflated dinghy when siting the exhaust! The ducting in mine runs the length of the port side exiting in the rear cabin, heads, saloon and front cabin.I could not ask for a better system and if you need any photos or further details I am happy to help if I can.

Hello treacle1973, I was determined to install the heater in our SO42DS as closely as possible to the factory installation. I was very fortunate in one the forum participants had the original heater ducting, electrical and fuel diagram. This is a big project. I undertook the project in about three or four sub-sections. If you purchase the correct size hole saws for the outlets, install them and install the ducting you can then move onto the main unit installation. The exhaust had to be installed by cutting a hole in the hull. I made that nice and high as I didn't want water ingress when on a port tack. The fuel system takes a bit of installing. Mounting the fuel pickup was interesting particularly when I found the existing fuel pickup leaking. Installing the control panel was pretty easy. The kit comes with lagging for the exhaust pipe so as not to radiate too much heat within the boat. On my boat the stainless mounting bracket for the main unit screws to the side of the hull on a reinforcing stringer. In the SO42DS, thank goodness a webasto duct is factory installed behind the galley. It appears just forward of the refrigerator and behind the trim panel of the aft cabin cloths cupboard. This heater installation has made a big difference to the enjoyment of our boat. You can buy cheap look alike heaters that seem like you are buying a Webasto online. I actually did this and returned it for a full refund. I didn't want to go to the trouble of installing it and finding it was not as good as the real thing. I am glad I didn't settle for the cheaper one because the installation process of this is just too hard to install anything but the best available. My experience is in hints and tips if you would like to see what happened. Regards, Trevor
