Both the thru-hull valves on my 2008 Jeanneau 42DS are galled shut. I understand other people have had similar difficulties and have resorted to replacing the valves. I had a marine mechanic look at the valves. He felt that the valves are not proper metal for thru-hulls in salt water. Will have to replace both valves when the boat is hauled for the winter. Anyone else having similar issues?

Hi Paradox, We had the same problem on our 42i (2007) replaced them this year and all works well again, your machanic is right for a few extra euros Jeanneau could have supplied better valves pitty there is not a bit more space to get on them. Rockstar.

We had problem with outlet on our 39 in first year. Dealer "sorted it" by cleaning, greasing (or whatever) It was in 2007. At the same time I fitted an extension to the handle to make it easier to turn and we have had no problem since. They told me issue was caused by irregular use. In first year it was mostly open water day trips so value was seldom opened/closed. Now that we are cruising extensively - compliments of the recession - the values are used more regularly and we have no trouble - So maybe the dealer was right.

Have a 2007 42 DS & had to have the forward head valve and handle replaced 6 months ago. I now make it a point to "exercise" the valves every time I'm at the boat - 3 or 4 times a month.
