I have recently purchased a 27 year old Jeanneau 42. I would like to install an autopilot but find that space is very confined in the area of the quadrant. I spoke to a Raymarine technician and he wants to install an SPX30 and type 2 rotary drive on the binnacle because of the confined space in the area of the quadrant. I am not in favor of this and would prefer it on the quadrant. Are there any drawings and recommendations for the installation.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to find drawings of how to install the units at the Raymarine website. Will they be particular to your boat, or mine for that matter, no. But if you look up the model, you can see how well or not it my work that is recomended, then look at pics of a different model, or the way you want it installed, to see if it would work.

I have a 1991 42.1 w/ a Raymarine ST 7001+ Smart Pilot unit. The ram is attached to the first stair tread in the stern. I also have a Raymarine S3G course computer for sale if interested. Jay
