Well, I just got my PHRF rating for my Jeanneau 36i. I am a shoal draft, roller furling mainsail configuration and a cruising spinnaker.
The assigned number is 96 with spinnaker and 117 without.
This is 3 sec/mile faster than a C&C 99 with full rig here on lake Ontario. This seems very aggressive to me and I was wondering if anyone else on the lake had any experience with this?
Thanks.

Considering Radonic on here has a 39iP with an ~88 rating, you are very aggressively rated being only what, 8 secs with a spin slower than him! I would swag closer to the 130 range with a spin. Now if you had a "P" version the 96/117 would seen about right.

With a JSO 35 shoal draft I'm rated at 144 w/o spin (don't remember what it is with spin).
AND I definitely am agressively rated against boats like C&C 36 and Catalina 34 (full draft) - both circa 1985 with ratings around 165 and we sail side by side.
Whoever did your rating definitely made a mistake -

Another point of reference. My SO 35 full keel is rated 126/96 in San Francisco. That rating is competitive as long as the wind is up.

PHRF-LE (Lake Erie changed Thinice 36i RF jib this year to 120 PHRF 128 Jam. Rating for the last two yrs. was 15o/158. The boat sailed well to the 150 rating however at 120/128 it has not sailed to rating. This is standard version SD boat. Your rating definitly is wrong. Carawba33

Well, once again the phrf handicapper is not doing thorough research when establishing a handicap. I have a 42DS in Seattle with a US Sailing Standard handicap with a standard spinnaker and full main and jib of 90. I was given allowances for a smaller jib and no spinnaker, but no allowance for roller furling main so my club handicapper adusted my rating to 126. You need to definitly protest your rating but only after you do your homework using us sailing as your starting point and showing comparable boats, etc

Thanks guys for all the info. Let me race it a few times and see how it works in the real world...
Anyone else on the lake racing a 36i?

I got my 6 point penalty back now. They penalize you 6 points for the first couple years to see how you do. So on Lake Ontario, Canada. My 39i P is now rated Spin 93, and white 114. I am happy with this rating. Ed Radonic www.radonic.wordpress.com - Black Diamond Blog.
