Water Accumulation Lock Inset Companionway

Original owner of a '99 36.2 here. A couple of seasons back I found a mold/mushroom "thing" growing in the inset that my companionway door lock tabs into. Anybody had any water accumulation issues in this area. The only place I can figure the water might be tracking from would be the bedding for the screws that hold the seal for the overhead companionway hatch or the bedding for the screws under the teak plugs that hold the teak rails along side the overhead companionway hatch. Just hoping someone else might have had the same problem and solved it before I start tearing things apart and playing the guessing/testing game.
