Hi fellow sailors.
Im new to the forum and have a 42i that we purchased new 3 years ago.
We cruise mainly solent- Weymouth-Chanel islands. Prior to purchasing we had no sailing experience!
We are thinking of going further a feild soon, portugal then the Med.
What i would like help on is rigging the storm jib. Has any one done this on similar boat if so how have you done it?
Do you think it is nessasary?
Thanks.

A local 42I owner has a storm jib that attaches to his furled jib using some combination of Velcro and ties. He seems quite happy with it - not sure I'd trust it in the kind of adverse conditions that would mandate a storm jib.
We're taking delivery of a 42I in October. A local sail maker has recommended that we have the rigger organise a removable inner fore-stay. His thinking is that this could be used both for a storm jib and also for a spin staysail. I strongly suspect that this will require re-enforcing the deck under wherever we would put it.
I'll follow your quest and as we progress I'll put some more info here if I learn anything useful.
