New SO 35 owner trying to figure everything out. There is a diesel filter under the floor of the aft cabin. I do not recognize the brand or how it is changed and/or cleaned. Is it something that can crossed with a common US brand?

Hello Whitebird,
Congrats on the new boat. We picked up a 2004 SO35 last year. Thoroughly enjoying the boat - and I'm sure you will also.
Suggest you do a search on this site in "purflux fuel filters". There is a great trail covering this topic.
Good luck!
John

On my SO34.2, I pulled out the impossible-to-drain, element-difficult-to-find, French filter and substituted a Racor 230RMAM, much more accesible in the US, and relocated it into the propeller shaft space between the gland and the transmission. Pix will be available in a "how-to" to be published within the coming months. Aside from relocating the mounting, all I needed to do was change out one fuel hose.

Whitebird, I get replacement filters for my SO35 from Jeanneau America. Changing it isn't too bad. There is a drain on the bottom. Unscrew this to drain the diesel. There is also a bolt on the bottom. Unscrew that bolt and the bowl will come off allowing access to the filter.

Agree with so34chi. The Purflux filter has no useable drain point in the position it is mounted and the plastic drain plug is maleable so deforms easily. I've just this week replaced it with a standard CVA filter using the 296 element. Has a glass bowl and the drain is accessible even though I've left it mounted in the same place just 2" further aft. Which I'd done it years ago.

Further to this discussion, what other filter solutions have people used. I find the PurFlux system makes me uncomfortable and I would like to replace it with some kind of Racor system. Has anyone any experience on a SO 40??
