Hi Would anyone know the part number or source in Europe for the shaft nut anode on a SO36i? Is it common or recommended to fit a shaft anode as well as the nut anode? Thanks no3l

We have both the prop and the shaft anode. When I asked, the foreman at the yard told me that the prop one came with the prop and the other one protects the shaft; which he mentioned, is much less "precious". The shaft anode was done after 9 months (could have done for a bit longer, but was really already down to ~3mm around), the prop anode wasn't even touched and funny things grew on it.

I am also trying to locate a source for an anode. It is a 30mm dia shaft the anode fits on the end of the shaft with an internal spline taper and a square internal shoulder and a recessed hole for an allen key (which screws into the end of the shaft) in the end centre The boat is a SO40. Any ideas would be much obliged. Regards

Most of these anodes are the same as fitted to Beneteau cousins try: www.zincsmart.com/beneteau.htmor do a google search for beneteau anodes in your country cheers Malcolm

any good chandler should keep these they are a standard part. Tip: try to insulate the screw from the anode, I have seen plastic screws used for fixing to enable this. Why? because lots of "corrosion" takes place around the screw and the anode falls off!

Hi All,
I've been monitoring the anode wear on Rhiannon. I've been concerned that the propellor anode doesn't seem to be doing anything.
At the start of last season I fitted two shaft anodes and a new conical propellor anode. When lifted this month one of the shaft anodes was completely gone and the other is well worn. However the propellor anode is completely untouched.
Is anyone else experiencing the same? Is it anything to worry about or am I safe to continue with two shaft and a propellor anode?
Many thanks Noel

Is it anything to worry about or am I safe to continue with two shaft and a propellor anode? In my opinion one shaft anode and one prop anode is sufficient, and that is what we use on our 36i with flexofold prop. I guess what is happening with yours is that the shaft anodes are doing all the work, which means the prop anode is not active, so the outer surface never wears away -which results in weed and other stuff growing on it...and because of the growth the anode is unable to become active and start doing its job when the shaft anodes disappear (because the zinc is not exposed) However, have you scrubbed the growth off the prop anode? Sometimes you'll find that when you scrub/scrape them they disintegrate, which shows that it was working. Also, according to a flexofold engineer you do not need to have both a shaft anode and a prop anode, but I think it's worth having both for peace of mind. I hope this all makes sense

Useage seems to depend upon the area you are in , and even the marina. I go thru 3 zincs in 6-7 months. Then again, some say there is no such thing as hot marina's, but mine seems to be hot! altho the port has not found any leakage of stray current from their end......

Just lifted for annual Powerhose, change anodes etc. this time last year everything was ok. This year the shaft is badly pitted and the pbracket will also need replacing. I had a shaft anode fitted and held in place by two jubilee clips. Each side of the clips is very bad and the engineer thinks the problem was created or at least made worse by the clips Instead of the short lift out and quick job we now face a major job with the associated costs - new shaft new p bracket, new through hulls etc.
The yard has always kept the shaft anode from sliding around by using jubilee clips. Engineer now says safer to use cable ties

I recently ordered adodes online for my SO42i with a 30mm dia shaft from anodeoutlet.co.uk. Delivery by post only took a few days. They are both manufactured by MGDUFF. Its the MGD 30mm for the shaft anode and CMAN 230 for the prop. anode. The prop anode had completely gone just leaving the allen key type screw, which I re-used. The shaft anode disintegrated when I touched it but to be fair both had not been replaced for 18 months.... Ooops!
