I am debating going and doing something silly - selling "Zanshin" and purchasing the new 57! I am talking with a dealer in the USA who says that we could work out a deal where the boat that I would like to buy would be used later this year for a boat show. Does anyone have experience with boat show boats - the damage they might take and what sort of financial incentives are offerred to the owners?

My boat made the tour, and there was no damage I could see. The only funny thing was that it had a decal affixed to the starboard bow, just above the waterline, with the company logo and model number. But it is the same quality and color as the boot stripe, so it matches nicely.
I have no regrets, and I got a good deal. Don

Don - I'd love to know what sort of concessions you were able to wring out of Jeanneau for their use of your boat. I would have asked you via PM but I cannot seem to find that button here and perhaps it doesn't exist on this bulletin board.

Zanshin,
the PM button is at the top, or at least where your pms to you show up,
Click Dons name, then at the top of a box to the right, it says send PM, click that.

Zanshin, We had our boat in a show and it was win-win deal for us. We got free tickets to the show and spent some time on our boat answering questions from the show goers.
With a 57, I'm sure the dealer will put down protective covers over the cabin sole. I'd also be very surprised if they left your boat unattended. They's also most likely regulate the number of people down below at any one time as well.
I'd suggest you check with the dealer to see what types of provisions they'll be making to prevent damage to the boat.

The boat show deal is interesting. Previously, I owned a C & C 32, hull #1 and agreed to have it in the Stamford Sail Show. Other than a bottle of wine, nothing was offered. Several sales were made I was told. It came back in its original condition. I have just purchased a Jeanneau 50 DS and have agreeed to have it in the Annapolis show this fall. I have been offered a free algrip job of my choice. The dealer would like me to "work" the show which I'd like to do, although perhaps not on my own boat. We're early in the discussions so I'm not sure what else they have in mind. I did get a darn good deal and enjoyed working with a very professional dealer.

Just a head's up as to any potential liability insurance concerns in event some individual show looker got injured while aboard "your vessel". Perhaps to insure the Dealer provides some hold harmless agreement in your favor or confirms you as a additional insured under their liability policy. All the best to you with your new toy. R

Luckily, this did not apply in my case, since I didn't actually take ownership until after the boat show tour was over.

We have done this in the past for our customers and had no problems. Both us(the dealer) and the manufacturer carry liability insurance for the show to protect everyone. We are a dealer in NJ and looking for someone for the 57, to be shown in the Fall Annapolis Boat Show

Hello Riversideyachts - I'm already in negotiations with the Bay Yacht Agency regarding the J57, but many thanks for the offer. I am still torn between the lure of a new boat and the fact that I'm happy with my current one.

Zanshin, I just curious, we are a new Jeanneau dealer but we sell other brands, how did you find or hookup with Bay Yacht?

I knew of them before and it was the first name that came to mind when I thought of getting a boat kitted out in the USA instead of in Europe. I wanted to do this as I would be trading in my current 49DS and thought that the US market for a boat in the Caribbean would be better than the European one.

Zanshin:
I was interested in your contact with Bay Yachts. I just ordered a 50 DS through them and found the agency (Chris Bent) to be very professional, knowledgable and helpful For me it was a strange decision to go to Annaplolis when I had two dealers in the Northeast, but both of them didn't really know the boat and lacked followup. Good Luck.

I never heard of Riverside Yachts and didn't see any listings or advertisements for the dealership. Having by-passed the CT dealers, Bayacht was a logical choice, particularly after the Annapolis show. The 50 DS is now in production.

Hello All...I don't know if this will get to you 'cuz I'm new to this process but I have a 57 under contract and would very much appreciate any advice, comments, thoughts, etc. And would be happy to answer any questions you may have from my end!

J57 - I'm within a week of selecting a Jeanneau 57 for delivery in July; I haven't decided on all the options or if I will ge a (used and smaller) other brand instead. How is your purchase process coming along?
