Any of you folks from down under know anything about this brand of Anchor. Particularly this model? manson-marine.co.nz/SitePages/galvRacer.htmLooks like a way to lose a few lbs off the bow, for less weather helm, better handling etc vs my 6.5KG/16.5lb bruce/ 18' of chain 250' of 1/2" line. IE a smaller light wt anchor, little less chain, smaller diam line, for when the wind dies, I'm floating backwards, something to stop me temporarily, or an emergency slow down to get the BIG anchor up from below. I might be able to lose some 20 lbs up there with a 5'ish lb anchor, 3/8 line, 6-8' of chain...............PLEASE NOTE< this is not the main anchor, light wind, tide issues mostly. NOT storm, ie 60 knot wind holding power! ;D ;D Marty

Boy you would have to be a serious racer to get one of them, racing OD there could be a point, but as most race in mixed fleets and on a performance based handicap system why bother, get the crew out practicing more and spend the money on beer when they do well, more to be gained from that. I do have one of the Manson supreme anchor's and I sleep well knowing it holds well. Cheers

I think it makes sense. Just depends on how much you can really save I guess. For an emergency I have an 8kg Brittany Anchor in a cockpit locker ready to throw over the side. However I think you really talk about small savings in weight here...Unless you go with rope only which is probably not a problem for an emergency anchor (I use only rope on mine)
The brand itself is fairly well known and they are good anchors from what I read. Though to be honest I knew them because of their Manson Supreme which resembles a Rocna (or a Rocna resembles the MS but I do think the Rocna was first). However, Manson anchors are expensive and the one you quoted is probably not the only one available in aluminium. At least I could get many aluminium fortress/danforth style anchors off the shelf here (HK)
Cheers
