Could someone please tell me how to configure a double berth in the saloon of a Sun Odessey 35. I assume the drop down table is involved, some of the cushions perhaps but just can't get it to work. Help please.

There are at least two different setups, as I discovered when comparing notes with another SO35 owner. Mine is rather straightforward. You lower the table, insert some cushions and try to be comfortable with the table fiddles making lumps in lots of inconvient places.
The other arrangement involves raising the table to get it out of the way, placing wood pieces to fill in the gap, and then finishing with the cushions. I suspect you have this style, since it's more complicated.
I think it was Reverie that had the more complicated arrangement. Perhaps he can give you more information.
Good luck, Don

Thanks for replying Don. I think I will just get an insert made up in ply and use that instead of the table. Regards Ric.

Strange Don that you find the fiddles making it uncomfortable. Once the two special cushions for this purpose are installed correctly, I find that berth to be most comfortable and the fiddle largely inconsequential. Certainly comfortable enough to not consider lugging a separate piece of plywood around. Just my two cents.

James,
The cushions we have don't include any cutouts for the fiddles, so they make lumps. Now I'm wondering whether we got the right set. There were several SO35's delivered in the same time frame. Maybe they got mixed up.
What's your hull number? Mine is 292. Maybe we can figure out when they switched over from one style to the other.

Hey Don. We have a 2003, hull number is 34. I think you have the same cushions as we do as ours don't have cutouts for the fiddles either. While this causes the seat cushions to ride up a bit, I've never found the fiddles to cause discomfort. Maybe theres some other difference in the cushion material.

Hull 830 SO35 - the cushions mound up over the table. I haven't slept on this yet so I don't know if it would impact comfort - the rear cabin and V-berth have accomodated all of our crew. I definitely does not lay flat when dropping the table and using all the cushions in the right places.

James
You mention 'special' cushions to fit on top of the table. We purchased the boat send hand last year and we did not get any additional cushions. I have tried using some of the existing cushions in all sorts of ways to get the best fit but nothing really looks right.

The table is lowered and the settee cushions remain in their normal configuration, only the edges ride on top of the table fiddles. You should have two purpose built cushions that fill up the void on the saloon table once it's lowered. They are narrow cushions no more than a foot wide and roughly as long as the table. With these two extra cushions in place you have a large berth.

We are also trying to fit a settee berth,as we did not have one from new,Our boat is 2003 Hull number 042. When lowered our table sits 65mm above the locker tops and the cushions mound up against the table,I would be grateful if anyone with a working system could confirm the height of the table and if possible post a picture of the cushions and table in position. Thanks

Hello James Thank you ,we would really appreciate that,we are hoping to go travelling in May and would like to complete this, if we could get the cushions made to fit it would be much less complicated than installing wooden bits , ,we would prefer not to damage the fitted furniture. we have already approached the Jeanneau dealer ,but it would appear the forum members are more enlightened. Regards leenjoan

well leenjoan , you are not the only one about to appreciate the pics of a working system. I had the similar intentions on making a extra berth but wasn't sure how to cope with it.
I look forward to this weekend.

Here are the pictures that will hopefully help out those that are trying to figure out the SO35 Settee berth. So this is how we set up our settee. 1. All cushions in place, table raised. 2. Cushions raised to make room for table. 3. Table lowered into place. 4. Yes, the table rides on the settee. Once cushions are in place, we don’t really notice it much especially while lying down. 5. These are the two cushions that fill in the table top. 6. Cushions in place and finished berth. I hope this helps. - James

This is the same system we have, which we don't find acceptable.

James, Thank you for the pics ,we will we able to make something now, we have seen that it is possible to lower the table a further few cm(.by moving the latches under the table ) at least 20 cm,that may be enough to make it comfortable for a passage berth.Thank you for your time and trouble regards Leenjoan
