After developing a system for charging my Victron LFP batteries I want to share this unique solution that I have tested together with my brother for 4 seasons and improve it to a reliable charging unit. My brother has two of those in his Bennetau 55. It is absolutely the coolest on the market. Those of you Jeanneau sailor that are thinking of replacing your alternator then this is the optimal solution.
Idling 110 Amp, at 1000 rpm 200 Amp and >225 Amp continuously at 1500 rpm for ceveral hour.
The alternator I use is equipped in RR, Bugatti, Audi and VW. I have built my own test facilities in my workshop to find al week part to avoid them for you. Al parts are super standard and can be find worldwide if you need a spare (that won’t happened hopefully). By using the ocean as cooling element instead of air its possible to tune this alternator to another level of performance. This alternator is stunning cool. You will have a much cooler engine compartment then before.
I call it the “Arctic Alternator”.
Alternator Hitachi.
Tinned output cable 3 x 16mm² to the rectifier, length 0,75 m. Please advise other length. Longer length then its 3 x 25mm².
Tinned field cable 2 x 1,5mm² at the alternator, length 1,5 meter. Please advise other length.
Pulley standard 6PK rib, diameter 68,6 mm.
6PK1000 multi rib belt.
Automatically air drain.
Tensioner with buckle screw for easy accurate rigid adjusting.
Pulley on the flywheel 6PK diameter 145 mm, ratio 2,11:1 with screw and Nord-Lock washer.
Breaking wheel 90 mm, increase the wrapping around the alternator pulley.
New pulley with bracket for the water pump.
No radial load will be applied on the water pump.
No stress compared if the belt was going to tuned alternator.
V-belt 11,9 x 950
Bosch brushless circulation pump.
Max current is 1,2Amp 15 watt
Reinforced hose connection in brass to 12,5mm
Expected lifetime 25.000 hour
Connector and tinned cable 2 x 1,5mm² length 1,5 meter
Heat exchanger Bowman DC90.

With brass connection for 26-28mm hose and brass connection 12mm for circulation.
Modified to drain the air in the system.
Rectifier bridge 300A 1600V
Water cooled mounted on the exchanger. Al screws are replaced to SS and with SS Nord-Lock for a safe electrical connection.
Helisteel hose 12mm length 2,5 meter. Between the alternator, circulation pump, exchanger.
with SS Jubilee clip.
Hose for expansion vessel ø8 mm length 2,5 meter
Brackets for the expansion vessel. 50mm 2 pcs
Expansion vessel for system fluid.
The intention is that everything is included to make a successful installation as SS screw and cable ties and many other small parts that are needed.
Price for a complete set for a Yanmar 4JH5 is only 1 800€
What you need to add is a regulator like Balmar MC-618 or Wakespeed 500 or similar.
