Hi The headlining in my 32i is secured by Velcro. Unfortunately the Velcro is stronger than the adhesive securing it to the deckhead. When removing the headlining the Velcro stays secure but becomes detached from the deckhead. Anybody any experience of resolving this problem. I’ve tried reattaching using sickaflex and considered self tapping screws with plastic screw caps. Thanks Tarn

I have no advice to offer you.... because I'm in much the same situation. My 2013 JSO 439's headliner is/was similarly held up with velcro. The previous owner gave up on that and used self taping screws in a number of places, and in many of those places, the screws themselves have since pulled out of the fiberglass, (which seems a little odd, because it isn't clear that there's much real "pull" on those panels, as they're not that heavy, and yet, here I am).
For myself, I'm considering gluing and fastening some thin strips of wood up to the underside of the deck, and then I'll put the self taping screws into those bits of wood to hold the headliner in place.

Hi Tarn
On my 32 2005 I have just today solved that very same issue over the Galley. There is a wooden batten suitably offset by spacers already attached to the headed by what I presume is Sikaflex 291 or 291i as it is now. But at ends did have Velcro upon Velco too. This I have replaced with suitably sized marine ply spacers attached with 291i. I used a long thin bendy piece of wood from the deck to the batten to hold in place. Fixing holes in batten I glued in cocktail sticks so that fixing screws will have something to bite into.
All the best

Hi Thanks for the comments. I believe that gluing some thin marine ply and then screwing into it will be best for me. Cheers Tarn

On my 85 Arcadia, the ceiling panels etc are held with screws. Most places have a thin, about 1/4" or 6-8mm of plywood too. Then into the balsa in ceiling.

Hi,
I used 3M contact cement and it's been holding.

Hi 3M sounds like a simple solution. Did you glue the Velcro back into place and if so were you able to then remove the headlining and replace it using the Velcro? Cheers Tarn

my vote would be to remove the velcro, attach it to the headliner, clean the area where the velcro goes with acetone, place some 3M 5200 on the velcro, push the headliner in place (you should feel the 5200 squish) and hold the headliner panel in place with blue painters tape till the 5200 cures
