Hello everyone. I recently bought a jeannEu espace 1000 from 1981 The fix keel version. And i wonder if it’s encapsulated or not , as long as i cant find any bolts in the areas they would be for bolts held keel. Any knowledge about? Thanks you.

Hi Motco
Can you send some photos of the bilge area please.
You can upload them as attachments, or via the mobile app.
Thanks Malcolm

Maybe a bit late to this. MANY Of the sailboats from that time frame, including my 85 Arcadia have glassed over keel bolts. I can at least see where the bolts are thru out the keel area. I do not see the bolts, nuts etc themselves.
The keel itself, should be iron, not encapsulated. Typical of iron keels, no matter the brand, one needs to grind them down every 10-15 years to bare iron, treat with a zinc-rust inhibitor, fairing material, epoxy, bottom paint of your choice. You'll be good for another decade plus.
You may find a smile between the keel and hull. Fill that in with an appropriate caulk type material. I usually use 3M 4200. Stay away from the 5200 equal, IE a permanent caulk. Sika-Flex has similar to equal types of caulking materials. Don't use a basic silicone type material.
