We purchased a 2014 Jeanneau 469 Sun Odyssey and have been making our way around the boat tailoring it to our use. The last project I have is the addition of davits for our 650lb (Typo) 450lb center console inflatable. I know this is heavy for a transom mounted tender but this is what we purchased and now must find systems to handle the weight.
I have had a terrible time finding anyone in the Los Angeles area who wants to take this on and finally received a price from a local boat yard that included adding G10 glassed into the transon for supporting the weight and installation of our Kato Marine Voyager Davits, pictured below (LINK: www.katomarine.com/saildavits-voyager.htm ). I love these davits but they were a little pricy, they are in my garage and ready for mounting.
The last issue is the installation price I received is much more than I expected, I have a background as a labor estimator and have worked on many of my own projects which include similar but different installations. I gave this installation a lot of thought and even planned on using G10 myself prior to pricing this out. I felt that worst case scenario was one man day at each side of the transom for prepping and glassing the G10 and rerouting the vents out of the way from this installation (the vents must move to the outside of the transom to allow room for the davits. I figured another 2 man days for mounting the davits to the transom. and came away with 32 hours at $125.00 plus $500.00 in materials. I then added a 25% "cushion" to cover hauling the boat and anything I may have missed.. This was only my estimate and means nothing but I am usaully close on machanical items and came up witha budget of $6,000.00. I actually believed this may be a little high but was wrong. I received a quote that was more than $8,000.00 which included 46 hours at $155.00 per.
What is your opinion regarding the hourly rates, if you are local to Southern California please share with me the rates you have been paying? Thank you for adding to my thread.
