Hello , we have lost the navigation instruments on a Sun Odyssey 45 circa 2007 .
We have the original owners handbooks which show the autopilot and ST60 tridata , depth and log are all linked via a computer . Yesterday we spent many hours searching for this computer ,which we were unable to find in any of the lockers on deck or in the aft cabins , including lifting the floorboards ! Does anyone know where it is located on this type of boat ? Thanks frank

Second, I would check the breaker on the electrical panel which controls the navigation.

Hi Frankie,
Our boat came with the ST60 tri data (in 2009), but no autopilot. The speed/depth unit was connected directly to the ST60 with no extra computer.
We didn’t have an autopilot. I believe there may be a computer associated with the autopilot, but I have no experience with that.
The ST 60 series all join together in daisy chain fashion. We had wind instruments as well and with the two daisy chained together we got apparent wind which uses the boat speed as well as wind speed for the calculation, all without an extra computer.
In addition the the steps Chris has already suggested, try unplugging and re connecting all the connectors, including the special end terminations on the backbone.
As I remember it, our ST60 eventually failed - needed everything reset every time it was powered up. I hope the least likely cause of your problem, but our local Raymarine agent had come across this fault before and said it was not repairable. I replaced it with an i70, and was very pleased, and would recommend that if the ST60 gives you grief, go for the upgrade. It gave a huge range of extra display options which I found great. But in the first place I would be optimistic that unplugging and replugging all the connections to make sure they are tight will solve the problem.
Please do let us know how you go.

Thanks , I should have said the problem arose when the boat was struck by lightning . It is not a loose connection problem . Raymarine have told us all the instruments and autopilot are controlled by a computer which has 3 fuses inside it , the problem is we cannot find this computer to check the fuses . (fuses on the bow thruster ,windlass , fridge etc. etc . were blown and have been replaced ) so this is a good place to start with the raymarine system. Does anyone have a similar boat and point us in the direction of where the computer might be located ? If we can find it and check the fuses we may solve the problem. thanks frank

I had a nearby lightning strike a couple of years ago. It damaged the ST60 TriData, making its communication port inoperative. All of the individual functions worked, but the unit could no longer send its data to other instruments. This resulted in the loss of functions like true wind speed and direction.
The computer is, I believe, part of the autopilot. My autopilot is a self-contained unit without a separate computer. But I would guess following the wires from the autopilot display would eventually lead you to the computer.

Different boat, but on my 42ds, the ‘computer’ is located under the port seat in the aft cabin. Good luck!

It is behind a panel that seems to be fixed but can be opened with a latch that is positioned INSIDE the locker forward of said aft panel. The latch is placed halfway down horizontally. Difficult to explain but if you just open the drop down locker on the port side and look inside (towards the stern) you should see the latch. Hope this helps Dave
