Ahoy captains, currently considering purchasing a 2001 sun odyssey Jeanneau 43 Deck Salon. I was told the compression post was taken care of. Seems sketchy to me looking at the pix... What do you all think? Umm looks like I can't as pix... How can I tell if it's fixed or not?

Tap on ‘Boards’ at the top of the page, then ‘use of forum’, followed by ‘revised guidance for photo uploads to this forum’ and then adding photos should be possible, …… and worth a thousand words, as the saying goes.
The compression post issues are fairly well documented on the forum, and I am not the authority on the subject of the 43DS, others here are, and will no doubt comment , especially if there are some photos to view.
Basic checks though are to look at the GRP at the bottom of the mast, it shouldn’t dip as if it will collect water, the rigging should be tight, look at the rigging screws, if they have little adjustment left it could be that the rig has been continuously tightened to compensate for the mast getting lower, and then lift the cabin floor to examine the base, look for cracking in the surrounding gel coat.
All this perhaps you have done already and photographed, I feel this is probably not your first boat purchase, why not quizz the owner for a more detailed explanation of how it was “taken care of”, a full explanation should be forthcoming if they want a sale, before employing a surveyor or making an offer.
Also worth a read of : ‘Boards’ - ‘model specific discussions’ - ‘43ds’ on this forum, just to see what others have found to play with on this model, oddly the first post here is on the very subject you ask about.

Well done up loading the pictures.
Doesn’t look great from your pictures , and even if a ‘fix’ has been carried out, it doesn’t look quite finished yet, perhaps there is some other reason for the large slot?
Is the boat priced accordingly, and do you relish the challenge of the rebuild? if no , and the owner can’t explain things …. walk, or at least drop your offer by twice the yard cost to fix it, it is a valid negotiation point.
Just my take on it, sure folk who have fixed it will pop along soon with a more experienced view.

What do you all think? Umm looks like I can't as pix... How can I tell if it's fixed or not? I would drill a 12mm hole next to the post. If it comes up wet, damp then it has not been fixed. Of course don't drill too far down. It doesn't take much. I have posted my repair on this site if you want to review it. I returned my post to within 1/16" to the original spot. I did not leave anything that looks like it is still cracked. So if it was done, then it probably wasn't done well.

Did you buy the boat? the repair is not that expensive, you might just get a price reduction and ensure that the repair is at a high standard
Cheers

Apparently I never put together the PDF of what I did. I shall do that and post in the next few days.

Apparently I never put together the PDF of what I did. I shall do that and post in the next few days. That would be really nice. Despite I thought I have escaped this problem the reality hit me hard... So I am gathering all possible information and I believe I'll repair it "around the world ready"
