Good morning. I own a Sun Dream 28 (1988) and wish to understand what the deck construction is especially around the sheet track. I do not have a problem but wondered if anyone in the forum knows or could point me in the direction of someone who might. Thanks for your help.

You are very welcome to our forum.
Not 100% sure, but most likely your Sun Dream will be traditionally laid up fibreglass. They probably have put in plywood in high stress areas like the sheet tracks, winches and cleats. Probably has end grain balsa in the larger areas to stop flexing.
Enjoy your boat.

Thank you Macolm. Thanks for the prompt reply. We do enjoy the Sun Dream 28 but just have a question regarding the deck. Do you, or anyone else have any suggestions as to how we might find out (without drilling a hole that is )? Thanks Phil

Thanks Phil Hi Phil There should be several holes already such as for cable glands around the mast. They are always worth re-beading with new mastic, so if was me I would remove a couple, clean the hole and that should let you know the construction. cheers Malcolm

And/or, pull a sheet track bolt out and have an investigation of the exposed hole, re seal , pop the bolt back in , and you have your answer. Probably a solid lay up 8 to 10mm thick.

My 85 Arcadia, version before the sundream is about 25-30% glass at top and bottom, remaining 40-50% in the middle appears to be balsa. I've replaced the genoa tracks along the cabin once. I've also added some SS supports on the top of the deck as it has tried to separate from some supports below deck. These supports appear to be a solid wood of some sort.
