I'm looking for help in accessing the backside of my Raymarine Axiom Chartplotter to switch to new charts, this is on a Sun Odyssey 440. There's no access from the aft starboard locker so it seems like the only way to get to the backside of the chartplotter is through the ceiling of the aft starboard cabin. Anybody know if this is how to access the chartplotter?

As i recall, the rubber says 'raymarine' on it.....

Hello Scott, I had the same access issues, I have to remove my whole chartplotter from the front and pull it out to access the little SD card. I finally capitulated and bought the Raymarine extension kit (it supports both a USB and an SD-Card) so I don't have to bother. I only wanted to download the tracks for my logbook page, too.

Chris - Thank you for your response but the problem is just getting to the backside of the chartplotter. It can't be removed from the frontside, one has to get to the backside to access the SD card or even to remove the chartplotter. So the problem is how to get to the backside of the chartplotter. I haven't removed the ceiling panel in the aft starboard cabin yet but it seems to be the only way to get to the backside. I was hoping a SO 440 owner would chime in that faced the seem problem.

Zanshin - thank you for your reply. As I noted in my reply to Chris, you have to get access to the backside of the chartplotter even to remove it so if I can figure out how to get access to the backside I would be able to access the SD card. What is the Raymarine extension kit that you mention?

I installed a Raymarine RCR-1 Card Reader on the side of the Navtech housing. It plugs into the SD Card reader slot on the back of the Axiom. You can now download any system updates from a USB Stick or SD Card. I don't think you can download a new Navionics card from this Card Reader, as you need to use Navionics app...but I'm not sure. System updates can be downloaded from Raymarine's site onto a USB or SD Card, plugged in, and the system will update. A lot fast than wifi.

Fortunately the Axiom 9 has the SD slot at the front. Expensive upgrade though

sbarouch - Does that mean that the plotter is mounted with nothing showing on the front? In my case the plotter is mounted to a small carbon-fiber panel, and that is screwed into the pod. But somehow they must have installed it and that knowledge is model-specific and I'm afraid I have no advice, other than to get the RCR Remote so that you don't have to go through the pain of accessing the rear more than once. I have used it for updating the software. I downloaded on a Windows system and then wrote the the SD-Card which I plugged into the Axiom chartplotter.

Zanshin - Yes, there's nothing on the front of the chartplotter attaching to the helm so it is secured from the backside. Still searching on how to access the backside.

You will find it on the right hand side at the bottom, its not obvious, but you prise open the rubber cover to expose two slots.

Hello, I have a SO 440 with two Axiom 9. On my boat, the SD card (Navionics) is on the port side. (It could be on the starboard side, inspect the Axiom menu). To remove the SD card (i did it for updating charts on my computer) you can access to the Axiom back in the cabin. I have two cabins, so it’s easy to access to the port side, for the starboard side, it’s a little bit difficult i must remove the plywood (6 screws to remove) to access to the starboard Axiom 9. If you have two aft cabins, you must remove the ceiling lining.. Best Dominique

Thank you information Dominique, I also have two Axiom 9 chartplotters and two aft cabins. I figured I might have to remove the ceiling lining in the starboard cabin to access the backside of the starboard unit but will check which one has the SD card first.
Thank you for everyone's input!
