If anyone has a 490 with a factory fitted diesel heater I would really appreciate it if could you send me photos of the vent locations?
My Jeanneau dealer has retrofitted my soon to be 490 with the diesel heater package and already I’ve identified one vent fitted in the wrong location. Now I’m concerned the rest of them are badly fitted. :-(
Many thanks,
Joss

I retro-fitted diesel heating to my 42DS and followed the factory positioning for vents as closely as possible but I don’t think there is an absolutely right or wrong way - unless he’s fitted a vent in the cockpit! 😊
On my 42DS I had vents in each sleeping cabin, each toilet compartment and of course the saloon. That was plenty.
Whereabouts have yours been fitted and which is the ‘wrong’ one?

I have a heat vent in the cockpit, a shutable one, keeps us toasty in the winter when our cockpit enclosure is up. Possibly not a great vent position should we become inverted, …….. but would have lots of other things to worry about in that event.
A vent in the shower is a must, apart from keeping warm while washing, the shower makes a great place for stowing dripping coats etc and they dry in no time with the vent pointing at them.

Totally agree on vents in the shower / heads - perfect for drying wet gear as well as the shower itself after use.

I have a photo of it factory fitted at the base of the Jabsco toilet. I was promised that the heating would be fitted the same as at the factory and quite clearly one has not. So now very dubious about the rest. Thanks, Joss

Yes obviously you want them all as low down as possible. In the heads and other small spaces the location doesn’t matter so much (as long as it’s low).
In bigger areas like the saloon you want it low and central - I think mine was near the dining table so it was focused on the area where people would be sitting.

Hello Joss, It is disappointing if you think the outlet is in the wrong position but perhaps you could devise fins to direct the air downwards. The outlets I have are fitted with variable fins to direct the air. When I wanted to fit a heater I wrote to Jeanneau who promptly sent me the original drawings for the SO42DS. That made it easier to know I was installing in accordance to the factory standard. I am not sure of any similarity between the heater outlets for a SO49 and the SO42DdS but here in the project for my boat. www.jeanneau-owners.com/hintsandtips/heatinginstall.htmlGood luck with your deliberations.

Trevor, Many thanks for the suggestion. I’m paying a Jeanneau dealer a significant amount of money to have the heating installed as per factory fitting. I’ve asked the dealer for the plans several times but have still not received them. I’ll try contacting Jeanneau directly. Regards, Joss
