Hi, I have a Fantasia centerboard and am going to put a new board in. The info from Jeanneau looks like there are plastic washers and some type of bearing around the axle of the centerboard but I can't find out. Anyone out there changed the centerboard and can give info on the axle and any bearing s? Also, if anyonee has changed the board, do you have a template? It would save alot of time to have the board fabricated prior to getting it in the yard. Also, my boat has a hole slightly above the centerboard axle on the port side. I haven't seen that on other Fantasias. Anyone know what that is. Pic attached

Hi Sailing,
We do have a few Fantasia owners but apparently they have not changed their board, or perhaps just missed your post.
Unfortunately I cannot see your picture, try adding it as a .jpg file, using the “Add Attachment” button at the top of the Reply or Create Post screen, make sure the file size is well under 1 Mb, 500 kb provides plenty of resolution.
Several models have offered centreboard or lift keel configurations with a range of different designs. I had an SO30i with a lifting centreboard that sounds rather like your description, but I don’t want to divert the thread with irrelevant details so I would like to see your picture to see if they are similar before posting pictures. I did drop it down out of the case several times for checking and anti fouling, and have some pictures. If you send me a pm with your email address, I can send you some if they are relevant.
They main issue with replacing those plastic washers and bushes is that they are underwater so you need a plastic bearing material that does not absorb water and swell under prolonged immersion as they are always under water. An Engineering Plastics Supplier should be able to advise you and supply suitable types.

I've converted it to a JPG file.
As a note to all iPhone/iPad users. You can switch your camera's picture format from HEIC to JPG in Settings. Go to the Camera > Format section and select Most Compatible.

Hi Don, thanks for making that conversion, I had not heard of that one before. I usually just use a camera, and they come as .jpg. Difficult to see what the board is made of from that photo, an idea of the weight would help. But It does appear to be missing thrust washers at the shaft, and the bearing pad at the front edge looks a bit rough. I will attach a photo of the board from the SO30i to illustrate what I mean. This board is basically timber/fibreglass, and an easy lift for one, though the awkward location makes an extra hand desirable. It is only weighted enough to go down under gravity, and makes a negligible impact on stability. This photo was taken first time out of the casing. It looks like the top was never antifouled. We applied the proper undercoats and antifouled it before putting it back in, and it was all still in good condition last time I saw it. I have also attached a photo of the pin. Is is a length of plain round bar, I assume some grade of stainless steel, tapped M8 each end with bolts to secure the large washers which hold the pin in. You can see the bolt and washer from one end in the picture. The other end is still threaded in place. rene460

Hi, After trying heat, an impact hammer and various penetrants, I got a 1 1/8 hole saw which just fit over the end of the 25mm keel pin and drilled from each side until I got to the centerboard. It was a carbide tipped hole saw and it took about 40 minutes of drilling and a can of WD40 to cool and lubricate the saw and then the pin easily hammered out. Now I'll just replace with a 1 1/8 pin and all should be good.
