On the first sail of the season i started having some issues furling the headsail.i suspected the swivel which seemed slightly stiff, so I started preparing to put on a new one, (Profurl model B35). In preparation I decided to put some binoculars on the clevis at the top to see what might be needed. Well a nasty surprise awaited me, 12 of the 19 wire strands of the forestay were parted at the swage fitting. It is only 8 years old because when I bought the boat the seller had to replace the previous furler and headstay due to halyard wrap cutting the swivel in half.. My question is, does anyone know for sure the proper wire size for this stay? Profurl has told me this model furler is on the light side for a boat this size, so I'm now wondering if they went cheap on the wire as well. I appreciate any info on this. Can't imagine a boat yard would skimp on this critical part, but stranger things happen.
