I have a 2007 54DS - I was thinking about adding a whisker pole (I have a cursing spinnaker). Question - is it something that would be worth the price of this pole which seems quite high $3500?

I have a Forespar whisker pole mounted on a track on the mast of my SO35. I am very happy that I spent the money on it. The pole I had on my previous boat was a simple pole you had to muscle into position. The current one is so much easier and safer to use, since it is always attached to the boat at one end, and deploying it is mostly a matter of adjusting a number of lines. The cost was less than $3500, since my boat is smaller, but the total was still over $2000. The pole is the major part, but the other pieces add up pretty quickly.
Whether it makes sense for you depends on the amount of downwind sailing you will do. But since you already have a cruising spinnaker, I think it would make sense.
