Hi,people, hope to pick up some info from you guys. I have an older 38' Gin Fizz, I am repowering. How would I find outy the trans gear ratio, I think it is a straight application rather than angle I will find out this weekend when I get my head in there. Are there markings on trans something to identify it? Thanks Red

Assuming you have a Yanmar, on the back of the trans, IIRC 4 places the ratio may be. Very top, top back side, or side sides, either left or right side. Maybe the side back.........going on memory from the Yanmar OM down at my boat, and where it is on my 85 Arcadia. Once you see it, it is very pronounced.

As of last week I have no engine, I removed a RC30D, a 30 hP Renault Marine engine. I am down to 3 finalists, Yanmar,Volvo, or Kubota, all in the 39-40 HP range. So far my first choice is the Yanmar 3JH4, 39 HP 3 cyl. With the weight and the prop upgrade I was advised to use the 2.36 to 1 ratio trans. Any thoughts? Thanks Red

If you are fitting a new engine and transmission AND a new prop then the OLD final drive ratio wont matter, but the supplier of the new prop will want to know the ratio of the new gearbox.

thanks, that is what the engine supplier said also. WIth a new shaft, prop, and trans he is tailoring all to the hull displacement. I decieded on the kubota 28 hp, from sound marine diesel.
