Hello and thank you for allowing me to join. I spent hours reading archives yesterday for this answer and couldn’t quite find what I was seeking. We’re heading into survey for a 2005 SO43DS and we have some concerns with the amount of gel coat cracks that we quite frankly did not see on Bennetaus and Catalinas of the same age and older. We budgeted to have these repaired but will this be an ongoing issue? What would have caused this? I initially thought it was due to the compression post issues in this model but from what I’ve read, this was resolved prior to 2005. Am I incorrect? Thanks in advance for your help!

You are most welcome.
Guess it depends if the fix was done OK...
Often on the 43DS it caused window leaks too, so would advise to check.
Guess you have seen the article at:https://www.jeanneau-owners.com/hintsandtips/compressionpost.html
Good luck and do report back.

I guess I didn’t state my question clearly. Yes, I did read that article where it states “early models” of the 43DS. My question is did Jeanneau remedy this issue in production before 2005? So that it did not require repair later on?

Annette,
I have a Jan 2004 Model and do not have the compression post problem so guess it was fixed in Jeanneau production prior to 2004 Andrew "Genial Bee"

Annette what I would do to see if you have “compression post issues” is to look at the base of the compression post under the wood/teak floorboards and see if you see any cracks along the edge in the gel coated base that the compression post is bolted to. I don’t have any pictures with me but it will be pretty obvious if you have compression post base issues. Then that would possibly mean that the fix was done (maybe at the factory, maybe later on) I have a 2003 43DS and mine did need to get fixed. I did it myself and all good now, but I really didn’t see any external gell coat cracks or window leaking issues , but my post definitely was down about 3/8” Do you have pictures of your compression post base for us to take a look at and maybe also show us some of those external gell coat cracks. Tom

Tsenator, Plus see my post in a different thread on same subject. In what month in 2003 was your 43ds built?. Last 4 letters/numbers of the hull number give this info.
Mine is Jan 2004 and does not have the prblm. So looks like Jeanneau fixed their production sometime in 2003 Andrew

Best would be for you to post some photos of the cracks, that way we could actually help… Cheers

If you think you have the issue then drill a 12mm hole into the deck around the compression post. If the drill bit comes out damp/wet then you probably have the problem. If not then fill the hole with epoxy or someother material and rest easy.

So looks like Jeanneau fixed their production sometime in 2003 Andrew SaltyMetals, For reference purposes my 2003 43DS Hull # IRI00260B303 So I believe that means Hull Number 260 "B" : Construction started in February the 2nd month of 2003 (Months are alphabetical starting with "A" - "A" represents January and "L" represents December. ) "3" : This is the year of certification. The number is the last digit of the year in which the boat was built. "3" in this case designates 2003 "03": This indicates the boat's model year. What is your specific Hull # ?
