I have a SO 49 on which I would like to add an inner forestay . I believe this was originally an option when these were bought new from Jeanneau. They call it a flying baby stay. There is a tang already on the mast just below the main forestay and I believe there should be a bracket to mount the base of the stay on the deck just behind the large locker on the foredeck.
Does anyone have one of these stays fitted. I am interested to know what the deck attachment looks like, how it is supported etc or if anyone has any pictures or drawings of it. I have asked Jeanneau but am waiting for their reply.

We have this on our SO49. Currently away from the boat but IIRC it's well forward (forward of the windlass at aft end of the chain locker). We normally have the stay stowed on the port shroud because the stay really gets in the way when tacking/gybing the genoa. If this is still open I'll respond when we get back to the boat (March).

Graham T . It would be great if you could come back to me in March if you have chance to take a picture of the fitting and location. I contacted Jeanneau and they said they would not recommend putting a second forestay on this boat. I then sent them the brochure with it stating that this was and optional extra. The reply was "we do not recommend the addition of a baby stay" No explanation why or why they had originally put this as an optional extra in their original brochure. Its like getting blood out of a stone. No one a Jeanneau seams interested in helping at all! including the UK broker who also could could not explain why it was in the original brochure. I think that because the model is old and it is not so easy for them to get the details, they can't be bothered to look into it properly.
Great customer service !!!!
As I plan to sail round the world I thought it would be useful to have a second stay when crossing oceans so I could rig a smaller gib for rougher conditions.

Hi Martin, yes will do when we're back in Airlie Beach (currently in Melbourne avoiding the wet season and the heat). Another 3 weeks or so.

Hi Martin,
We're back in the tropics and I have had a look at the installation. The post is mounted at the back of the chain locker and bolted through to the sail locker. The post is high quality stainless (no sign of corrosion) and is 15mm by 50mm bar about 655mm long. It is shaped to fit the bulge of the windlass enclosure and bent slightly aft at the top. It is mounted with five flush bolts.
The stay attaches to the post with a D shackle and has tackle at the bottom for tensioning. The photograph is of the gear stowed on a port shroud, also showing the halyard. Photos are in the attached dropbox file.
Note that we have never used this as we just cruise the tropical east coast of Australia.

Thank you Graham T for taking the time to take some photos. I am still waiting for Jeanneau to come back to me!! It looks like I could probably fit this myself. I am back to my boat at the beginning of April so will be adding this to my Job list. Happy sailing. Martin
