Hello everybody,
since April this year we own a 1997 SO 34.2. The boat currently has no boiler/calorifier installed. I'm thinking about installing it in the portside cockpit locker as this will minimize the needed hose length to the engine and to the shower. The manual show the position for the optional boiler under the salon seats, but i'm wondering if that is only an AC powered boiler (without supply fro the engine).
Are there any SO 34.2 owners who already have a boiler/calorifier installed?
Regards
Carsten

Howdy,
My SO34.2 has a boiler which is electric, and heated from the engine water. It is under the first saloon seat, and is a great location as far as I can tell. Never thought about it in a different spot. Mine is a tadge cramped in there as I have 50% of the watermaker also in that locker, but that's my fault.
Don't worry about the length of the piping, unless it is really expensive. You don't lose anything in terms of heat worth worrying about, and an added bonus is that it actually marginally warms the floor which is great for the winter months.

Hi Mike,
thanks for the information. How are the pipes routed from the engine to the saloon seat? Are they just running through the bilge or behind the starboard paneling and under the aft berth?
Thx Carsten

On mine, they come out from under the steps, through the bilge and into the locker from 'underneath'. You may actually find the holes there already as these things are often pre-designed.
The route mine takes appears to be original, doesn't look like they are an after thought.
Will try to take photos next time I am down.
