I hope it's a "Volvo Shaft Seal 35mm Volvo #828526". I bought one from General Propeller in Bradenton, FL and plan to install it this week.

I know this post is a few months old now but I recently had the stern gland and cutlass bearing done in Greece at Cleopatra yard on my 2001 J43ds. This is a screen shot of the parts and costs, just in case anyone else is looking at the same job. I was going to do it myself but think it's a 2 person job to draw the prop shaft from the outside and at the same time free it from the rear part of the engine, inside. Robin "Mariposa"

I too have a question concerning the stern gland on my 2005 DS43. I'm hauling out this winter to do the bottom paint, and I wish to replace the stuffing gland as I have no idea how long it's been on the prop shaft. The gland is labeled Volvo Penta 828524. But this isn't making a lot of sense. I did some online searching for 828524 and it comes up as 25mm prop shaft, 42mm stern tube, and says it is no longer available from Volvo Penta distributors here in USA. Although supplier SVB in Germany apparently does have one.
I put a micrometer on the prop shaft where it goes into the gland and it is definitely 35mm dia, not 25mm. I can't measure the stern tube diameter while the boat is in the water for obvious reasons. To me, I'm thinking the proper gland would be Volvo Penta 828526 as mentioned by member "OhWell" in this thread. This is available from General Propeller in Florida just as OhWell mentions. It is spec'd as 35mm shaft and a 54mm stern tube.
I'll try and attach a picture of the gland I took last week. The characters "8285" are clearly visible. The following "24" almost appear to be a different font; I can't quite explain it or understand it. But it sure isn't making sense to me. I would sure like to have some assurance that the 828526 is indeed the correct gland; hate to be scrambling trying to get the right part when the boat is in the yard and the meter is running.
Thanks Dale

828526 is 35mm Volvo shaft seal. The 35mm is important. That is all. I changed it last year (by myself).

Thanks Ales! Appreciate it. I'll go ahead and order the 35mm.
