Nope, it's normal and mine's the same as we're other Jeanneau's from mid 2000's I looked at. I had flaking in the anchor locker, cockpit lockers, bilges etc, pretty much anywhere it gets damp/wet the thin gelcoat eventually flakes off. I suspect it's poor prep from the factory (wasn't properly cleaned) and over time it flakes. I ended up scraping it all and repainting with 2 part epoxy bilge paint; messy and time consuming but came out great.

I never had that issue with my 2005 SO35 or my 2016 SO439.
The flaking may be ok, but I would investigate what looks like possible cracking where the sloping aft panel of the locker meets the the port side pane of the locker. It may just be more flaking, hard to tell from photo.

This was inside my anchor locker and under the leaking shower pan along with most places that got wet or damp (could also be related to the constant high humidity in Southern US/Caribbean area). Observed the same conditions on the 3 or 4 SO/DS 45's I looked at a few years back in Florida/Caribbean.

Hi sven36,
My 2010 36i had the same issue, although not as bad... the paint/gelcoat on the section where the anchor chain hits the locker on its way back was getting very thin, to the point where the fiberglass was becoming visible. I guess a combination of chain with mud & sand certainly helped getting the paint off.
While I changed the chain that was getting very rusty in some sections, I cleaned the anchor locker with water pressure first, then acid solution to remove the rust spots, followed by a light sand and degreaser, then applied one coat of flowcoat.
It now looks like new and I will put the chain/rope back this WE, after leaving it to cure for a week.
The access is not easy but feasible... isn't it called boat yoga?!
I hope this helps, Cheers, Allegria

Hello guys,
Thanks for your responses. I am not going to leave the boat for this because it is otherwise perfect.
@ Allegria should I also put a new fiberglass cloth or just a gel coat? Do you know the ral color of the white that Jeanneau uses.
Thx
Greetings Sven

Sven congratulations on finding a good 36i, fantastic boats. To me it looks like the anchor locker has been painted at some stage and probably with not very good preparation. I suggest removing all the paint, this will allow you to inspect the fibreglass for defects. If there are any cracks these can easily be repaired the glass and resin, but get some advice on the procedure first. If the fibreglass is sound paint it with flowcoat. I have used it in my bilges and it gives a good finish. Rob

Hi Sven, Unless there is any damage, I wouldn't add any fiberglass in the anchor locker. I don't know the Jeanneau colour, but I used white flowcoat as below: www.scottech.com.au/index.php/fibreglass-composites/Considering it is out of sight and that it will be covered in mud and sand at some point, I didn't care much about matching the colour. You should make sure you use flowcoat and not gelcoat... but I assume you know that... Hope this helps, Allegria
