Has anyone had to replace a zip on the standard Voile - Techniques lazybag supplied on a 2006 Sun Oddessy 32i. Because the zip is permanently closed at one end, flogging reef-lines have damaged some of the teeth on the zip. Any Ideas appreciated

I replaced the zipper on the Voile - Techniques lazybag on my 2005 SO 35. I didn't have any zipper damage due to flogging reef lines, but I did loose numerous teeth along the zipper due to UV damage.
I had the canvas shop replace the zipper and install a 3 inch flap along one side of the zipper. Also had velcro tabs placed on the flap every foot. This helped in a couple ways... it keeps the new zipper covered from UV rays and it also prevents rain water from collecting in the bottom of the lazybag. I've had rain water pour into the companion way in the past as I opened up the sail bag after a rain.
The replacement zipper also seems to be much more robust than the orignal zipper.
The total cost of the modifications was about $275.

Bryan,
I've just had a new zip fitted to the lazybag on my 2004 SO32, having suffered the same problems with damage to the zip. My local sail loft did the work, and including re-proofing the bag was less than 75GBP. The new zip comes apart at the end, which hopefully will eliminate the problems with chafe on reefing lines. The sailmaker also reinforced the zip which extends out past the bag with some additional canvas of the same colour. All in all a really nice job.

Yes Bryan, the loft is called Severn Sails and the man you need to talk to is Josh Brown. There is a web site at www.severnsails.co.uk/. Where are you based?
