I have a 2009 SO 36i and wish to change the anchor light bulb for an LED bulb, for the obvious reason of saving power. I only want to go up the mast once!!! so does anyone know the shape, size and dimensions of the original and also does it have staggered holdin pins. Thanks John. (CELINE)

I got a set of spares when I bought my SO35 in 2005. The anchor light is a very small bulb with a BA9S base. LED versions of this light are available through www.mastlight.com, among other places. There is no guarantee that the lights in your boat are the same as mine, however. I climbed the mast to verify the anchor light. Luckily, the running lights don't require this, and you should be able to check them easily. Compare the bulbs you find with the spares (that I hope you also got with the boat) to see which work. Don

Hi
We have a 2008 36i and have just replaced the masthead light with an LED. The bulb was the same as the port and starboard nav lights. It is a festoon style bulb with concave ends. In Brisbane Australia we obtained it through a local chandler. They said it was an Aqua Signal style bulb. Price here was $25 for a 40000 hour bulb that draws about 1 watt and is twice as bright as the old bulb.

Hi Guys, sorry to hijack this thread but I'm not the only one So, Barry, you saying the mast head anchor light is the same as deck level navigation lights? Do you have the exact model number for your LED replacement? I also have a mast head tricolor though I'm sure it's not standard so it will have another bulb. Of course, the tricolor is what I use when sailing at night (it already reduces the power requirements by three) so replacing the deck level and anchor light with LED seems a good choice. Incidentally, I don't really trust LEDs so far. All the 12-Volt fitting LEDs I have bought (ie. Halogen Spot replacements) died within 10 hours, some cheap chinese, some reimported from the US. I wonder how long you have fitted them and how many hours you have on them and if they still all work. Tom

I replaced all of the halogen overheads and wall-mounted incandescent lights in my SO35 two years ago, and all are working just fine now.

Hi all Sorry for the delay in the reply but I have been out sailing ;D The deck level nav lights are the same as the masthead on my 36i. We have about 150 hours on the nav lights and so far no problems except some corrosion on the contacts which we also had with the old incandescent bulbs. Water seems to get in through the seals on the bow fittings so I am thinking of soldering the contacts directly to the bulbs. The LED bulbs I used are imported from China by a local distributor. Their website is www.samallen.com.au. The bulbs are on page 50 of the 2009 supplement catalogue. product number 709824. These guys wont sell direct to the public in Australia, but the specs are all there. cheers Barry

Do not buy from them (last URL above this post, I don't want to repeat the link). I thought they were reasonable and good (for my first two orders) and for my third order they messed up (items not available, then refunded less than what I've paid because of currency fluctuations and saying it's MY fault) - Their customer service is really bad.
I've never been treated like this. Anyone interested PM me for the email traffic we had.
Their bottom line was that they now will block all credit cards from Hong Kong so that THEY will never experience this again - like this is my fault they're selling stuff which is not available?
Please don't buy from them.
Tom

I can only echo the previous posters to recommend replacing your running lights with (quality) LEDs, the drop in consumption is very noticeable!

Don, Can I bother you for the make and model LED bulbs you used to replace your SO35 lights? I would imagine the wall mounted would be a simple bulb swap. Did you swap the halogen's as well or did you have to replace the fixtures too? Thanks in advance. - James

There are numerous G4 bulb replacements out there - it is well-worth the money to get better ones as opposed to cheap models. I replaced over 20 halogen G4 bulbs with LED lights from MAST, see www.keysaver.nl/index.php?ID=44

James, I bought my LEDs from www.superbrightleds.com. Their service is very good (though I am in the US, where they are located, so there was no foreign exchange problem to worry about). It's been two years since I replaced the LEDs, and they still work fine. But there are better models available now, and as a result, I would recommend looking at what's available and picking what seems most appropriate. One recommendation is to use a warm colored light. I tried both warm and cool, and the cool ones are quite blue. I didn't replace any fixtures. The wall mounts are simple drop-in replacements for the bulbs. The overhead lights are round paddle-type lights with six LEDs mounted on one side of a small circuit board. They aren't quite as bright as the original halogens, but they provide enough light and the current draw is minimal. Again, I would recommend looking at what they sell now because they might have something better. Don

Here's a picture of the overhead light with the LED installed. I used the same LED in the reading lights. Don

Don,
Did you find the plastic surround of your masthead anchor lamp disintegrating due to UV radiation? When I was up my mast last year, this was very apparent. I plan on replacing the entire assembly with a LED scheme soon after launch and am interested in what other Jeanneau DIYers have done atop the mast.

The bow lights on the 2007 39i-Performance are Ancor Festoon End Caps, part no. 529333. We upgraded the interior cabin lights to Sensibulb ZED01 Miniature Warm White LED Replacement Bulb from Sailors Solution. The LED's are approximately the same size as the standard 10 watt G4 halogen bulbs.

Karl,
My masthead light was in great shape. I didn't notice any degradation due to UV.
