I recently purchased a 2010 SO 42DS and have managed to fry my water muffler. I was able to remove it and order one through the local Jeanneau dealer but... they are telling me that it is a 2-12 week back order and likely much longer. To say that is not good news at this point is certainly an understatement. Does anyone have any ideas on where to source one elsewhere? It appears like Beneteau may use the same muffler on some models but I do not have a model number or cross reference. Any/all help appreciated.
Jeanneau Part Number 990516 14.5 Liter Water Muffler
Update - New water muffler received. Direct shipped from Jeanneau to the US. Whole process took about 10 days. Even though this order was placed about 5 days later I have the part. The one from the local dealer has still not arrived and have no timeframe.
Thank you IanF for your recommendation. Clarke & Carter was great.

How did you remove it? I attempted to remove mine 2 years ago for inspection. I stopped when it appeared the only way was to remove the upright support at the foot of the pedestal bed. There was a couple of days work of removing wiring! I finally gave up based on advice that if it doesn't leak don't fix it. The rust drip that had concerned me was attributed to the wire reinforced hose.

To remove it I did the following:-
Working from the rear of the engine remove the short exhaust pipe from the muffler. To do this I found it easiest to remove the exhaust/water mixing elbow from the engine to give space to manipulate the exhaust pipe off. You will need to remove the screw in pipe connector from the top of the muffler. Check what condition it is in to see if it can be re-used but my advice would be to order a new one with the muffler as they do not come with it as standard IIRC.
Next loosen the clip on the muffler discharge exhaust pipe. You may not have enough movement at this stage to disconnect the exhaust pipe but if you can that is great.
Moving to the front of the engine. First completely remove the stairs. Looking at the engine, low down on the right hand side of the fiberglass engine mounting structure you should see an access cover secured with four screws. When this cover is removed you have the room to pull out the muffler.
Replacement is the reverse of removal.
Good luck - I would be interested to hear how you get on.

Thank you for your reply. I did the steps as you have suggested by fumbling my way along. There was insufficient clearance to lift up the muffler when moved as far aft as possible. I note the OP quoted the size as 14.5L, I believe I saw somewhere mine was 16 or 18L. Also the pipe connector is welded in rather than screw-in. At any rate not an issue today but very curious how to get it out if necessary.

The instructions from Ianf were accurate but would add the following details for my model. It would appear that the mufflers is removed aft but it actually comes out forward. You do have to remove the aft hoses and nipple first. You then have to remove the stairs and then the small bulkhead? under the stairs. On my model that included an allen screw on either side up top (starboard side in cabin, port in head). Then two screws on either side of the bottom of the bulkhead on the inside. Then a third screw in the top center, which was hidden under some tape. Once you have taken out the stair bulkhead you will see a panel with 4 screws under the engine stringer. Remove those and then there is a large bolt that holds the muffler in place. Once you remove that it slides out easily. I have pictures on my phone I am happy to send if you need them.

Henry is absolutely correct with the additional steps to remove the bulkhead at the base of the stairs. It has been a few years since I did mine and my memory isn't what it was!!

Hello Henryd We have a SO 43DS bought in last year. We have now to change the water muffler, because it’s leaky. You wrote you have Fotos to remove the old one. Is it possible to get them? I will try to get some photos over the weekend. It took me about 4 hours to remove it because I didn't know the proper order or what had to be done. Now knowing that, I was able to reinstall it in an hour and 15 minutes including some struggles with some of the screws.

Seems like it is always the first time one removes and replaces something, it takes forever per say. Next time, about 1/4-1/2 the time, depending upon what you are doing........Even IF you have proper directions!

We are flying back to the ship at the end of the month and then want to exchange the water muffler. Did you put the original part back in? Do you also have a 43DS? Greetings from Krefeld Barbara & Karsten
