Hi All
A Question for people with a 36i and the seldon solid boom vang. We have just purchased a seldon vang(rodkick20s/1720) and even when cut to the shortest length we will need to move the boom attachment point aft about 20cm. I am wondering if anyone else has done this or if this the correct model vang?

Hi,
looking also to get a solid vang - what was your final solution?
Cheers!

Hil
just answering myself, ordered the Rodkick 10s 1360 w/ hard spring. According to Selden (and my dealer) this is the correct one.
*fingers crossed*
Can't wait to get rid of the topping lift.

Tom,
You are correct!
We also installed the Rodkicker 10s and 1200N gas strut for the 36i.
Just and FYI, I had to replace the blocks and sheets with a different setup as the old one's would not cascade properly.
Unfortunately, when the mainsail is down or furled, you will probably still want to use your topping lift, as the boom will swing back and forth while under way with any motion.
It does, however, allow you to have a lot more control of the shape of the mainsail downwind. The gas strut effortlessly lifts the boom in light air, so you can get good twist on the leech.
I will post some pics in spring. Good luck and good sailing.

We have a solid vang on our 32SO and no topping lift, a small strap between back stays and a plastic hook in the middle stop's all the mad swinging when motoring, we have never used the topping lift, have even taken it of and we place the main halyard at the boom end when the sailing is over, that does 2 things, keeps it away from the mast, no noise, keeps tension on it all the time to minimise the stretch, it is spectra, but there still is some stretch.
