Our old Evolution? Windless Controller, plugged into the chain locker, failed on us. Opened it up, to find water and rust everywhere. We’ve been ignoring a problem with the cockpit windlass controller (sensor undetected) and was therefore relying on this soggy locker controller. Lesson learned #1.... dumb @ass. :-). Also, don’t leave them in the locker... Anyway, the point of this post, is how we made a DIY replacement In our case, we have a 4 pin socket, with three active terminals, Up - Down - Common. We cut off the controller, stripped the three wires, plugged it in, and quickly touched wires to each other (one at a time!) to determine which is which. In our case, BROWN was common. A trip to a local hardware store, for a two way switch, a sandwich box and some sealant, and we have a new controller. Photo attached. Not sure the design is a winner, but at least this is possible in an emergency :-) joe (Sandpiper of Harwich)
