We are in the market for a light wind head sail for the Chesapeake Bay. The bay is our cruising area since one of still works. We keep our boat in the Annapolis MD area. I have several quotes but cant decide on type of sail. We do want the sail on a cable less furler. We have several quotes: Quantum, North and Peak sailmakers. Elvstrom sail quote...very vague. Maybe buy a selden furler, and purchase a "Generator" from Peak Sail for $1,100.00 vs $4,100.00. Would rather do it right the first time. Let us know what works for you and where you purchased your sail and type of furler.

It has a furler incorporated. It works well once you realize how to come about or jibe with it.

We chose a Code 0 for lightwind sailing which has been awesome. it's a Dimension Code Zero Silver CZ 30 and we have it on a Selden CX15 furler that we rig on the new bowsprit. The code 0 was just under $4k and the furler was additional.
We haven't used it much as our refit was finally completed in October but the code 0 is great for the Bay.

Just ordered a code 0 from Precision Sails in Canada, $2400.00. If your only going to use it in light air save some bucks and go with a sock. I have been using my A3 down to 3 kts of air which gets my 45 jeanneau moving at 3kts, but it collapses at about 50 degrees true, so if pointing high is your goal code 0 is the way to go, but think about an A3 with a luff dimension that will allow you pull it tight for up wind while also having the bigger downwind option. Just a thought. (Or buy both 🙂)

I had a code zero built in Deltaville Virginia by Lattel sails, now an evolution shop. But they came to my boat to measure, discussed what I wanted, and built my sail in their loft. For my purposes it pulls great upwind but probably would not score well for racing ratings. Downwind I find this sail and my boat work best around 160 deg.s. Apparent. I recently had a new main from the same shop and it has been great so far this sailing trip about 100 days in.

Thanks for all the help! So far Quantum in Annapolis looks good. No we have to wait for Spring.
