Anyone come up with a solution? 2005 - 40.3 The windlass projects above the deck and ever once in awhile the sheets get hung. I know if I pay attention and keep out the slack it almost never happens. Thinking about a stainless steel "roll bar". But wanted to get any ones thoughts. Thanks

I just reduce the slack & that keeps the line from hanging up on the windlass or the whisker pole mounts. I'm sure a SS cage would help but I'm not sure I would like more vertical & horizontal area taken up on deck.

I'd much rather try a temporary fix with bungee cords or something. A stainless bar would have to be stored somewhere while not in use and installed when needed. Or a permanent one would end up being inconvenient for some unanticipated reason.
My windlass doesn't cause this problem, but I sometimes get a sheet hung up on the forward hatch. Rather than adding something to prevent it, I simply try to pay attention when gybing to avoid the problem.

I like the idea of a non permanent solution. I'll see what I can rig up.
Thank

I agree, a bungee secured to the deck on either side of the windlass that can be stretched over the top of the windlass would probably work to guide the sheet over the windlass. Another idea might be some kind of cone shape like an inverted funnel placed on top of the windlass like a cap.

I have a bulky windlass cover which seems to do the trick.......
dual purpose!

My thought is to make a canvas cover with hard plastic sewn inside to have a cone shape or tent like appearance. kill two birds!
