Does anybody know what's involved in replacing the side window in a Merry Fisher 695? I have been tasked to get two quotes from two different companies for insurance purposes. I have one quote but need another. The company recommended by the local harbour mechanic are unsure about how it's fitted, they are worried that the roof might have to come off to fit it. For good measure please see the attached image, you can share my pain. Seems like someone was careless with a fishing weight. Attachment Deleted

Hi,
I had the same kind of broken window on my 795. It is based on tensions in the glass they said. It was a warranty case so I can’t tell you anything about the costs. But the roof was definitely not opened or removed. Maybe that helps.
Cheers

This typically starts around the screw holes for the slider window. Mine has started to crack and I’ve seen a couple others that have cracked like yours. Mine happened in below freezing weather and another one I know was in very hot weather.
When I visited the factory in Cadillac they pointed out the side glass on port and starboard are structural to the roof. I think Buff is correct, the roof does not need to be removed but it may require support during replacement. This issue is usually covered by warranty, but it could take a while to get new glass in from Jeanneau as it comes from Poland. Mine was ordered in February and it just arrived last week so I have it scheduled for installation, although part of the delay was due to Covid-19.
I recommend people do routine inspections around the screw holes for cracks.
When did you purchase your 695?

"Tension in the glass they said". I just bought a nc895sport with the same sliding window on the port side. If the problem is solved by changing defect window, it is OK, but if it is a bad design causing problem with time. ..

I don’t want to disappoint you, but I am quite sure that my 795 is the first and last boat I bought from Jeanneau. You get a lot more for the same price when you choose something on the used boat market. When I see the quality of my boat...

The overall quality is at least on my boat quite poor. The mentioned cracks everywhere. The teal on one bathing platform had to be replaced already. Also the little step where the latter is. It was poorly manufactured. Through all the gaps between hull and upper deck the smell of gasoline comes into the cabin from the fuel tank compartment. Especially when it’s warm. The hose of the outside shower got twisted inside the bow. There is no opening to reach it or to change it. The electrical installation is not that well done. Cables are touching sharp edges. So I’m actually a bit disappointed after three seasons now...

Many thanks Buff, that's good to know, apologies for the delay in replying. My boat was built in 2016, so I would think warranty is not an option. I have ordered the part and agreed with my insurance company regarding the fitting. I suspect tensions too. Really not sure. *********** Hi, I had the same kind of broken window on my 795. Many thanks Ron, sorry to be so slow to reply. What you say makes total sense, in fact where the glass had fallen out was around the screw holes. So perhaps that was it. I have managed to get a firm to quote for the fitting at last so as soon as the part arrives they can fit it. I will let them know about the roof. Really helpful. MANY THANKS. I purchased the her March last year, she was built 2016. I'm a total novice with lots to learn but really loving the experience. ********* This typically starts around the screw holes for the slider window. Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I have managed to replace the glass myself. It all went pretty smoothly, the glass is simply 'stuck in' using sikaflex.
Removal was quite difficult and relatively time consuming, removing all the old sikaflex, stuck glass etc. Getting it back in was quite scary too. But not beyond the average 'diy-er' I would say.
I managed to leave the front fibreglass moulding in place and slide the glass in, albeit in a state of panic.
Fingers crossed it doesn't go again next season.
The replacement glass was around £320, materials £80.
Time? My own, so not that much!

Hi dboy, nice job and congrats on the DIY job. I just had my 795 port side glass replaced by the dealer and they sent me these instructions from the factory on the procedure. At first they had gotten instructions from the factory in Cadillac that the roof needed to be lifted, but then they got a correction from a France. They did end up breaking the front window blinder when they took the window out, but they were never able to get the replacement part from the factory so their fiberglass guy fixed the one they broke. I can’t say the caulking job is all that great, but this is the first window the dealer has replaced and I can see where it could take some experience to get it perfect. They did mention it took quite a bit of time to remove all the old sika from the frame before they could install the window. Again, nice job and I’m with you keeping fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again! cheers, Ron

So I’m actually a bit disappointed after three seasons now... Dont be disappointed. MF series seems to have mostly similar production detail problems and seldom particular ones. You only have to find them and solve them gradually when you spend time with the boat. The design and cruising is great. If you work on the boat you will end up with an all problems solved boat. Users forum is a real asset. Recently they sent me a form from the factory asking my opinion on improvements for the boat. My answer was short. I advised them to follow the internet user forums. I think to help solve the window tension problems recent boats came with a black colored aluminiium looking bar between the roof and the lower window frame. These are secured both top and bottom by two mini secrews, one in each. All togetler there is screw holes for four but in mine two are missing.. Recently I found these mini screws holding the bar loose and tightened them. When I have time I will add the two missing screws. LookiIng to the new Series 2 795, I could not see these two support bars one port the other starboard side. I think they are removed for some reason again.

Wow that's great to see Capt'n Ron, thank you. Kind of wish I could have studied that before doing mine. The 'blockers' are interesting, I never would have thought of that.
They look to have done a much more thorough job than I did.
If it goes again I will follow those instructions!

Hi dboy
Thanks for sharing your woes. I'm impressed you managed to fix it yourself. How long did it take you?
This happened to my MF795 yesterday. The glass is still in one piece, but I'm not sure for how long. I'm trying to find out how long parts will take to get to the UK, but I'm concerned it could be a while. How long did you have to wait for yours?
Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Sorry I only just saw your post. Sorry too that your window has blown, it's very annoying.
It took me about 2 days to replace mine. The hardest part was removing the old glass and the sikaflex. There's a lot of sikaflex. Offering up the new glass was pretty scary, but luckily it all went OK.
The glass took around 6-8 weeks I think. I still have a picture of the manufacturers label, in case you might want to try ordering direct.
BTW I did not order a new metal frame for the sliding window, reused the old one.
In the meantime I would recommend covering the glass in floor protector. You can get it from screwfix, does a really good job of keeping the glass in tact until you are ready for the repair. You can safely use the boat in the meantime. The glass isn't laminated so if it starts to fall apart then the chunks of toughened glass go everywhere!
Hope all goes well with the repair. David

Hi Same thing revealed itself when i uncovered my boat after the winter sleep. Port window totally scattered. My boat is model year 2019 (last year before model 2 came), bought new from dealer 2020. In the warranty papers it states 7 years on hull&deck. For you other people with the same experience were warranty covered, how old was your boat? Any problems claiming warrenty? Best regards Magnus, Sweden
