Just calling out if there might be anyone willing to offer me some technical website support /advice to keep www.jeanneau-owners.com alive? In the short term I trying to overcome a server error message that seems to have just started appearing on some android phones, but there is also a much larger longer term issue as the site is built on old Adobe Dreamweaver software hosted by GoDaddy. As it was built as a desktop site it regrettably does not have a mobile/tablet layout. It also currently does not have SSL and GoDaddy want a small fortune to add that. So may need to migrate site to another host such as Hostgator. Ideally it needs entirely rebuilding in Wordpress or a similar platform, but I have major time constraints this year. There is a wealth of information on the site, not least the hints and tips that have been built up over the past 15 years plus, so I would be loathed to see this lost to the future. If someone technically conversant is prepared to at least give me some guidance on options that would be wonderful. Feel free to send a private message here or use the contact form: www.jeanneau-owners.com/terms.html#contact if you don't want to publicly reply to this thread. Thanks in anticipation Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,
Quick question on this - how often does the content change? I can possibly migrate everything to a SSL website for you but won't be able to wordpress it for you quickly.
I assume the forum doesn't need moving, just an SSL or does that need moving as well?
Please let us all know more details and I will try to assist.
Mike

why not put a offer with description in : www.peopleperhour.com/ and we can spread the cost across all members ? I have been always very happy with www.peopleperhour.com/ services so far.. when we have something that is not worth spending the time of some of our in-house developers we usually outsource it to www.peopleperhour.com/ and price/value has been always great there...

Malcolm, I can offer time to help but have limited expertise in design and construction of websites. This is a valuable resource both to the users and to Jeanneau.
I am sure quite a few Jeanneau owners have been swayed to purchase a Jeanneau or another Jeanneau because of the help available on this site. Before purchasing Elessar I did look around at other brands and checked out their users groups. This was by far the best site and did help to sway my decision. Maybe Jeanneau can help/contribute to the site rebuild.

Many thanks guys for your replies and suggestions, I really appreciate them. I am hopeful that the short term issue is now largely resolved. I have switched the site to a secure status, IE https not http this may take awhile for the search engines to pick up. If anyone has problems accessing any of the site via www.jeanneau-owners.com please let me know. In the medium term the site still needs to migrate from an older Linux server to a newer C panel version, so some guidance on how to reload using FTP would be really appreciated from those in the know. In the longer term the main issue is that the site is not responsive so does not automatically resize for tablets and phones, but there is no simple shortcut to recode as far as I am aware. I will explore possible costs via Vasko's helpful suggestion. Maybe it is the "nice to have" category and providing the data remains even in desktop format that is actually the most critical. I have always felt that we should remain as independent as possible and whilst Jeanneau corporately have always been positive in supporting our existence I don't think becoming financially supported by them even in a small way is desirable. Equally I have avoided introducing a subscription requirement, not least because of the inevitable admin and chasing payments. The hosting costs are relatively modest so I have been happy to personally cover them. More importantly it would be great to have a small group of owners who could virtually work together to ensure the long term retention and hopefully expansion of this collective resource, currently I recognise that it is overly reliant on just myself with no succession planning. Thanks again for your support and ideas

Just a quick update on the web-hosting issue. Over the last couple of months I have migrated the main website hosting from Godaddy to Siteground, who have a very good reputation. I have also now fully implemented https at www.jeanneau-owners.comI also have spent a small amount of time preparing to incrementally switch from the old Dreamweaver web program to Wordpress and as Covid 19 will probably mean I will have quite some spare time this winter.. so my plan is to move forward with the site rebuild in 2021, so we can at last become mobile friendly. That said as I mentioned before, I would love to have a small group of others who are familiar with Wordpress not only perhaps to assist with some of the transfer, but more importantly to be a back-up admins. Currently the site is far too much reliant on me, not that I am not watching out for buses, but who knows... Thanks for your support Malcolm

Just a quick thank you for your efforts, unfortunately unless it needs skilfully hitting with a hammer, twisting with a screwdriver, or application of a spanner (wrench to those in lands afar) my tech skills won't help.
If we need to cough up a few quid each to cover some costs I'm in, and I'm sure many others would as well, this forum is a valuable resource.
Thanks again CB

Funding is not the issue really, it is not just this forum (which is fairly self-sufficient, unless Proboards goes bust or starts heavy advertising) but also the Website which I would love to have a wider group taking some responsibility for in the long-term. But if we need a hammer I will definitely be in contact.

At the moment it is just me. As I said I would like this to be shared with others and preferably with those familiar with WordPress Malcolm

I wouldn't know how to help you with development of this site.
That said, I notice you're missing something that I see on almost every forum: A "Dealers and Merchants / Support Members" section.
I spoke with my dealer about the value of being a supporting member of this owner's site for boats he sales. I hope he reaches out to you.
It is good for you and the site because it provides the financial support to contract out your site development and maintenance.
It is good for the Dealers and Merchants because they get cost effective and targeted advertising at a low cost to them.
It is good for the owners because they benefit from promotions and competition, and access to more service providers.
I know you are not trying to make money from this site, but it is a win-win-win for you-owners-dealers/merchants.
Bottom line, if you add a Dealers and Merchants section then we, the owners, can mention this site to our dealers and service providers. Then you can even contract out the annual invoicing to the providers.

Thanks for the idea Charlies. I will think about that as I develop the WordPress version over the Winter. Agree it would be easy to add. Main priority for me is recruiting someone or ideally 2 or 3 owners with basic WordPress skills who could be joint admins. Your feedback though is greatly appreciated Malcolm
