Any suggestions, quiet operation is very important to us.

I have weighed anchor and relocated before because the boat upwind of me had a loud wind generator (usually a KISS type). I hate that loud swishing sound and when the wind pipes up and the batteries are full some wind generators go into stall mode and sound like a howling banshee! With that in mind, I had a D400 generator on the last boat and I never heard it or felt it vibrate. They are, as far as I know, the heaviest wind generators out there. Perhaps that has something to do with it. The generator worked wonderfully, but considering the boat was in the trade winds all the time any generator would have done the same. Some of the newer generator blades on older wind generators have gotten better aerodynamically, but I still think that the D400 is the best-of-breed when it comes to noise. They aren't the cheapest, but also not the most expensive.

We installed a new Air Breeze Marine 12V wind generator in 2015. GREAT unit and extremely quiet. Does transfer a little vibration noise to the aft stateroom but nothing you can sleep with. Bought from eMarine in Ft. Lauderdale

We saw a D400 in a marina and it did seem to be quieter than the other generators in that marina.

...Does transfer a little vibration noise to the aft stateroom but nothing you can sleep with... When I installed the pole, I put in a thick heavy rubber gasket on both sides and made sure that the mounting bolts didn't transfer vibration either by enlarging their holes through the hull so that they didn't touch the fiberglass. That did make a difference.

I have owned three, starting over 20 years ago with the original AirX, and now the AirBreeze. I have never had any vibration problems inside the boat, but the original blades on the AIrX and the AIrBreeze did generate a bit of noise, especially when the wind was blowing hard. . There are replacement blades for the AirX/Breeze made by a German company that are almost entirely silent, and I now have them on the AirBreeze. They are not cheap, but worth it. They are a very distinctive blue color.
Wind, solar, solar regulator, genset, lots of batteries, battery monitor, battery charger, high-output alternator and special voltage regulator, inverter, isolation transformer, 110 and 220v power inside the boat, lots of heavy wires, switches, fuses. It gets very complicated very quickly. I think that some vendors are now selling integrated solutions to make it simmpler. My wife does not know how to make it all work, after 35 years of sailing togethers, and I have fried an alternator and a battery charger by having the wrong wires in the wrong places and shutting the wrong switches.
