My SD 37 has a Volvo Penta MD2040-D engine with MS15L 2.14:1 reverse gear. I am needing to do some work on the drive shaft so at the same thinking of fitting a flexible coupling so my question is, do they really make a difference in reducing vibration and ware or am I wasting my money?

They do. I have Sigma for 2nd season and everything is much smoother. Engine alignment (on water) is a must before decoupling old one.

Cheers, I’ll add it to the shopping list and start to look at the difference between makes.

Do you have the original 2-blade propeller? When we switched to a 3-blade Flexofold the vibrations were reduced substantially.

The boat came with what I think is a 2 blade Flexofold which is badly pitted and the teeth on the blades don't look too good either. The drive shaft has been extended at some point and is not straight, causing excessive wear on the cutlass bearing so am replacing the whole lot.
At the moment I am leaning towards a Featherstream feathering prop as it is competitively priced with good reviews and I want the slightly better reverse power you get from a feathering prop over a folding prop.
Going from what you folks have said and other reviews on the Sigmadrive I will go for that flexi coupling.

Ditto.... I fitted a sigma drive to my S/O 37 with volvo penta 2040D. One of the best purchases I have made. Its been on the boat for 4 years now. I serviced it a few months ago.
I will try and post my service report (with step by step pictures) v soon.
If anyone requires a copy of the report before I get chance to post it. Just reply with your email address and I 'll send you a copy.
Cheers
Ian
