Looking at installing an inner forestay on my 2010 53 for a storm sail. Has anyone done this? Is there already a spot on the deck that has a built in plate that I can drill into and that was installed from the factory? Or will it require some extra reinforcement under the deck.

The factory removable inner forestay attachment point that I have for my J57 is very far forward and I couldn't see any additional buildup there, so I assume that the deck design already foresees that hardpoint and it should be the same for the J53. The ceiling panels should be easily removable and the underside should show you where the attachment is supposed to go and adding a backing plate should be sufficient. Every time I've contacted the factory regarding structural questions they have been very forthcoming with schematics and information so I wouldn't hesitate to contact them in your case.

Thanks. There is a smooth rectangular spot on the deck forward of the crew hatch and behind the anchor locker that appears on the surface where it would go. Otherwise i don’t understand why the would design the non skid like that.
But what you are suggesting would have the installation in the deck above the forward cabins between the crew hatch/locker and the mast. I actually have the forward cabin ceiling panels down as I have been cleaning the mildew buildup so will look at it again.
