Thanks Malcolm fit the post. We started the day with a 20-30 southerly and had 2 reefs in the main and the genoa rolled in "2 reefs" worth. I was very happy with the southerly progress we were making in doing 7 knots regularly. The current does help as well. About midnight the wind swung easterly and picked up to 20-35 and the speed did to, mostly over 8's. the fastest speed we saw was 9.3. The current is supposedly about 2.5 south which is how we got 10 on the tracker. Wind died a couple of times today requiring the iron sail. After we turn the corner at Gabo island, the forecast suggests we'll have a 25knt NE to run across the paddock So looking forward to getting to Melbourne and just going home, no cleaning , no packing, no pickling the water maker, no emptying the fridge and best of all no long flights home. I will just go home with or to the family and come back to the boat that afternoon or the next day to tidy her up 😃😃😃😃

We went through the rip at 4:30am this morning following a freighter and ignoring the convention of going in at slack water before the high at the heads. We did this because it was so calm (been motoring through fog all night) and one of my crew knew the rip well and said it was fine. So we rushed in with the incoming tide and it was so calm. We did record a max SOG of 13.2 knots there. Yep the max speed was impressive too. We off loaded half the crew at Sorrento and are now motor sailing up the bay Far too much of the trip was motor sailing after the first 24 hours, however given the reputation of Bass Strait we were happy with the light easterly rather than a nasty south westerly.

Hi Hoppy,
Welcome home. Time to rest, settle in after a great adventure.
Lets us know when the pace slows a little and perhaps the local forum members can inspect the boat to formalise a forum welcome.
Regards
