"My name is Bill Perrin I am the owner of a 1990 Jeanneau sundance 36 in Golfe Juan, S. France. I have just replaced my 3GM30 engine with a 3YM30, but when motoring with the original prop, it only does 2knots at 2,500 rpms. The gear ratio is 2.6:1. I have conflicting size props recommended, has anyone had any experience of this and please can they recommend a prop size. Many thanks, Bill."

It looks to me that you will need a 16 x 13 fixed 2-blade or folding, or 16 x 12 folding 3 blade which I am using on my SO 37. I have a Flex O fold which have worked very well for me.

Hi Bill, I have a SO35 with 3YM30 and I am just changing to a Kiwiprop 3 blade feathering which is 16.5" x 23 degree LH prop. I am expecting a significant increase in reverse capability and 1/4 of a knot extra while sailing. The shaft is 25mm. I will be selling the standard 2 blade standard prop shortly, which gave over 8kts at 3200RPM.

I have a SO35 with 3YM30 with a 2-blade folding GORI propeller. Although the sailing performances are excellent, I am not satisfied when motoring: full power out of gear is 4000RPM; full power under gear is 2900RPM with overdrive system and 3100RPM without: at about 90% of the maximum power (2600RPM with overdrive) speed does not exceed 6.1-6.2kts. (I cleaned the hull last October). The performancesdecrease in the presence of head-on wind or sea (less than 5.7-5.8kts with a 15kts wind head-on and a 0.5-meter wave). Which cruising speed am I supposed to expect when motoring? I would have expected at least a 7kts speed under light sea and wind conditions. What could be the effect of a not perfectly clean hull on the speed in terms of kts' loss?

Hey Eruffini...I have a 36.2 with a gori 2 blade prop...for 3 seasons I battled with low motoring speeds and lugging at the high end...mac boring, the yanmar service outfit here told me I was over-proped...I finally got gori to give me a smaller prop and now I go faster at lower rpms and no more lugging
