With a boat of this age you should check the hull for blisters and other signs of osmosis. Furthermore check the history of the engine if it had the necessary maintenance done to it. Also check if the standing rigging ha sbeen repakced. If all is okay you will have a very strong boat with the quality from the days they knew how to built high quality boats with good carpentry.

The crack you mention may have been the result of a grounding. Damage to the hull at the rear of the keel hull join, and at the bow end of the keel hull join can be the result of striking a solid object with the keel. Look for cracks in the gel coat. With the hull stringers construction system any damage here should be easy to repair. Good luck with the boat.

I have same year boat -1990 - Sun Luberty 34, and I'm extremly happy with the build quality and everything in the design is so well thougth after!
In this years boats you should expect to have issues with the seals/sikaflex to stop beeing a perfect and watertight filler - you should expect to change the sikaflex around some stantions, cleats, windows you may need to redo some junction electric box connections .
Keel bolts - my ones are coveted in grp too and thats actually very good!
The boats from this years are stable well build and trustworthy.
This year at Southampton boat show looking at the new boats of same size after having the experience with mine and knowing for want to look I'm surprized how low quality are the new boats - in brief I would not change my boat with any large pruduction sailing boat built this days - they may look shiny but all important details and materials are cheap and will be gone in 5 years and thre boat will be a unreparable wreck ... so disappointing - the goiod quality boats are asking for £350k +. for 35 ft boat!

What the owner say about all this ? why he left the bolts to rust ? and what is the reason for the crack ? BTW: it looks to me that the mast stepping is not only a rust but it seems somehow like a crack - you need a info : what is the reason for the cracks and how much will cost you the keel bolts change as they should be not left this way rusting... renegotiation is your decision it is always on the table

I would have walked away from this boat but I suppose for a good price you might have a potential good deal. I would suggest to remove all carpentry and refinish it with new teak. Here in Holland you can by teak on fleece. I used it to fineer a previous boat of mine. The result was great with now difference with the original panelling.
Good luck, you will need it. And lots of time.
