Are they any specialized tools to open holding tank or water tanks lids?

I just use my fingers. They can be tight if they haven't been open in a while.

I use a spanner wrench for the "star" type cap; and a masonry tool for the "grooved" water tank caps. Fingers do not work for me as the caps are too tight to move without a tool.

The two wrenches I use, depending upon the type of cap, are in the attached photos.

Excellent, thanks so much for the tip. Exactly what I needed.

On my 45DS, the cover has five spokes and they are quite thin, so easily broken.
I got a round piece of wood (actually a teapot stand) drilled five holes and put a nut and bolt through each equally spaced in a circle, worked a treat.
