Is anyone planning on going? I might be able to fly there for either the first or the second weekend (12/13 Sep or 19/20 Sep). Which weekend is the better one to go?

I would like the weekend with less crowds, if possible. I'm not planning on taking home any last-minute sales/deals but just want to see a boat show in the U.K.

Most of the Southampton Boat Show is on the open e.g. the most important factor is to have a good weather but as the weather in UK is not predictable for more then 2-3 days you cannot do anything From numbers of visitors point of view I think both weekends are generally the same, but the last weekend somehow feels like everyone is ready to leave and the feeling is for end of the show...e.g not same excitement/fun as the first weekend... if you want less people then mid week , working time is the best bet...

Since I'm working at the moment I can't go during the week; so I'll have to choose which weekend to go. I hope that Jeanneau has the 64 on show so that I can take a look...

Best time to go is first weekend to include Friday which is the "preview day" as it is slightly quieter.

Who knows - perhaps the 64 will indeed catch my eye Thanks for the advice, Dublin. I'll see about getting there for the first Friday and weekend and hope that the weather will play along.

I've already contacted them regarding a viewing and found a good flight from Thursday night and departing Sunday afternoon, giving me two full days at the show. Then I started checking hotels and was quite dismayed in seeing that even the low-price chains that had rooms available such as Ibis, Novotel and HE-Express were asking upwards of £130 per night! Now I'm not sure if I'm going to go to the show at all.

Best place to stay is the holiday inn in the showgrounds. Expensive but effectively includes admission to show and means you can be strolling around before the gates actually open to the general public. Gives time to view boats with no one else on board.
Unlikely to get a room there. At this stage but worth a try.

£275 per night is kind of steep for a Holiday Inn... plus they are booked out all but 2 nights. I've checked hotels in the surrounding areas accessible via rental car and they, too, are either booked out or priced too high for my tastes. A one or two day visit to the show is going to cost me more than a round-trip flight to the BVI so I think I'll pass after all!

Non Standard Idea Charter a boat from : www.yacht-charter.co.uk/( or someone else) for the weekend - it starts from Friday and ends Sunday ( prefect timing) and you can get some very good last minute offers 2-3 days before the actual Friday... Sail to Southamton Ocean Village Marina about 3-4nm or have some fun sailing in the Solent, but stay overnight in marina in Southampton ( plenty of marinas ..) and visit the show... I used to do it with my own boat when I had one in Port-Solent/Portsmouth ...

Jeanneau has the 54 new57 and 64 all at Cannes, flights cheap and lots of hotels for 100 to 150 euro per night, probably more sun too.

That's a good recommendation, I hadn't thought of that. I lived just up the hill from Cannes for a while and know the area (and the good restaurants)! I think I can get a good flight direct to Nice as well.
Does the show at Cannes also have boat "stuff" or just the boats themselves?
