Dear all, I would like to add a supplementary tank for diesel fuel on my boat, not always 130 ltd are enough if the engine consumption is between 5-7 lts/h
does anyone has the same proble? Does anyone implemented with an extra tank? where has been positioned? Which one? How many litres? How the connections are performed?
thank you

spritz, What engine do you have and what are you using for rpm. This link shows the advertised fuel consumption against rpm. www.yanmarmarine.eu/Products-Leisure/We run out 75hp at 2000rpm and think we use about 3-4 l/h. Last year we did up the revs but that cost too much in fuel. We contacted Yanmar about their rpm advise and were told we could run the engine at lower revs for long periods if every so often we went to 2800rpm for 10 mins. The other thing that has made a huge difference to fuel consumption is the feathering prop. Our SOG is faster for the same revs as the Jeanneau supplied prop and we sail more often and further in lighter winds. We only carry 30lts of spare fuel in plastic cans and only when sailing overnight. Consider: reducing rpm and use a higher rpm periodically; add a folding or feathering prop if you don't have one. Then I guess the next step is a bigger tank. Ian

Hi Spritz, I have a SO40 ds 2005 ALLONG WITH A VOLVO 55hp.tANK LIKE YOURS 136 lit. I also agree that this is not enough. I added a flexible 100 liters fuel tank and put it under the rear cabin bed. It was made in Australia (they have good practice in long run voyages) it includes all connectors and was made to my own design to fit the under bed shape. I OPTED FOR 100 LITERS but find it easier to use it with 90-95 liters. Price is very tempting and it was supplied at my home address for around 250$.Delivery time was around a month including transportation. Am using it more than a year and I am very pleased.235 liters on board no need for any jerry cans and sea refuel. Just goggle for flex tanks Australia. I operate it as a buffer tank and pump it into the main tank whenever refuel is needed. Very easy to install DIY. No diesel smell. Now about your fuel consumption, you should find your highest economical crossing RPM. For a 55 HP motor one should opt to 3.5-4 LH at around 55-60% of your max motor RPM. Volvo-1750 rpm , Yanmar - 2000 rpm. Any higher RPM will result in a much much higher fuel consumption along with a relatively poor increase in boat speed. If you need more details please do ask for. Alex

Dear Alex, can you please give me some more details of the producer and on the model? can you also give me some details on the connections between the two tanks? you wrote that you pump from the supplementary to the main, how it works?
I think that another tank of 70-80 lts is more than sufficient
Dear Ian the difference in speed between 2000 and 2500 is more than 1 knods so often is useful to reduce the transfer time.
Thank you

ReHi Here is the tank web site. you may use my account to log in. You are looking for "bellow deck fuel Diesel tank". Opt for the 100 liter fill as much as you want. Remember ,they will accept your own shape design to fit your under bed location for almost no additional cost. I pump the flex tank into the main tank via the return opening that serves also the engine return fuel. Made a T connection. I am using an existing pump that I have on board that is used both to empty my engine oil (My Volvo 55HP engine contains 10.5 liters of oil) and to polish-clean my fuel by circulating it through the filters for a while (outstanding results). You may use any 12v regular cheap fuel pump that will be able to raise diesel up to around 1.5 meter. speed of pumping is really no issue. The more difficult issue will be the inlet pipe that should go up to the deck or transom like your regular fuel inlet. Elements for this are rather handy and do not cost a fortune. I did all the installation by myself, inlet was no issue because I used an abounded deck outlet that served a black water tank.
