One of my winter jobs (that I have put off for a couple of seasons ) is fitting a holding tank for our SO34.2, after a lot of deliberation I have gone for a Vetus system which includes gravity discharge and a pump out on the side deck, but am concerned about the best location for the no smell filter in the vent line which will be difficult to position above the top of the tank, although I will put in a high bend, am still concerned about possible overflow problems Any experience out there? Thanks Malcolm

Malcolm, we have a factory fitted holding tank on our SO32. The vent arrangement is a simple vent through the side of the hull, around 300mm below the toe rail. There isn't a filter or anything similar from what I can remember. If you overfill the holding tank, it will overflow through this vent down the side of the hull. I think the only way to avoid this is to put some kind of level indication in the holding tank - perhaps one of those electric indicators you can buy for water tanks would work?
Hope this helps Jon

My boat has a holding tank same as Deepjoy and no overflow problems. There is a light that comes on when the tank is 75% full, and you will need one of those.
It was the same on my last boat.

The no-smell filter that Vetus supply just goes in-line in the vent pipe and has a replaceable active carbon element, sounds good but any overflow means that it has to be repelced and there is not enough room to mount it significantly above the top of the tank.... I deceided to run the vent pipe right out to the stern to avoid a large skin fitting in the topsides Thanks for the feedback, I will let you knwo how it works out when finished

At Port Frejus, where my SO 32 was delivered, Renee Pierre acting on behalf of Jeanneau, has installed the holding tank into one of the two closet in the aft cabin. Any idea if i can move the tank in another place just to have more room for clothes?

The locker in the aft cabin is the standard location for the holding tank on the SO32. I'm not sure where else it could go to be honest.

Thank you Jon. I was wondering if below the aft cabin berth could be a solution.
