Hi I am new here and also a new sailor. I own a second hand Jeanneau Sunfast 20. The boat is in Portugal on the Alqueva lake but I live in the UK. I need to get hold battens for the main sail. Where can I get it in the UK or Portugal? Also, I need your help to name a piece of the mast . I am attaching the picture. This is a plastic "thingy" which protects the wholes where the mainsail rope gets out of the mast. These things are broken and need replacement. Any help would be much appreciated Anuska

If you can figure out who made the mast, more than likely Z-Spar, they should have the plastic parts to replace the broken ones. All you should need is the year, boat brand and model, they can figure out the spar size etc.
battens should be available at any boat supply place. If you have none, look on the sail for who made the sail. Give them a call, they may have the sizing somewhere. Or reality is, ANY local to you sail repair place should be able to figure out what length and flex pattern would work best. Even if they did not make the sail.

Hi Anuska,
Welcome to the forum. You have a great adventure ahead of you and have picked a great boat to start with.
The plastic "thingy", I would call a sail track gate. Unfortunately this is not a sufficient description for purchase of a replacement as there are many designs and the size must fit the opening in your mast. As Marty says you will have to try and identify the mast maker. Perhaps there is a clue in the documentation if the previous owner handed it on to you. Otherwise try the Jeanneau website which has specifications for current models but also for many superseded models and so may offer some clue. If all else fails, on a 20 ft boat, a track gate is nice to have rather than essential. Just use a small file to smooth of any sharp corners which might damage your sail as you thread it in.
For sail battens, any sail maker in the area your boat is located (so you can take the sail into the loft) should be able to supply suitable replacements of the correct length and appropriate flexibility.
